The Samsung Galaxy S23 supports 5G, including Sub6 5G on the regional variants listed by Samsung. Whether your particular phone connects to your carrier’s 5G service depends on its exact regional or carrier model and the carrier’s network.
What 5G does the Galaxy S23 support?
Samsung’s product specifications for Brazil, Spain and the Gulf list 5G Sub6 FDD and TDD. Samsung’s Japanese carrier-model pages also list 5G mmWave TDD. That mmWave listing applies to the examined Japanese carrier variants; it does not establish that every Galaxy S23 sold worldwide supports mmWave.

Samsung lists different 5G band sets across regional variants. The network types and bands for your own phone therefore depend on its model and market. Samsung Brazil’s Galaxy S23 specifications and Samsung Spain’s specifications show examples of regional listings; Samsung Japan’s Galaxy S23 pages cover carrier-specific models.

Not automatically. A phone’s 5G capability does not guarantee that a particular carrier, plan, location or SIM will provide 5G service. Compatibility depends in part on whether the exact S23 variant supports the bands and network types used by the carrier where you plan to use it. Samsung’s specifications establish device capabilities, not universal carrier compatibility.
#1 Best Overall
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
- Find the exact model identifier for your Galaxy S23, rather than relying only on the “Galaxy S23” name.
- Check the supported 5G network types and bands for that model in Samsung’s specifications for its region or carrier.
- Compare those details with the carrier’s compatibility information for the country and network where you intend to use the phone. Ask the carrier to confirm the exact model if its information is unclear.
Sub6 and mmWave: why the distinction matters
Sub6 and mmWave are different types of 5G network support. Samsung lists Sub6 FDD and TDD across the regional variants examined here, while mmWave TDD appears on the examined Japanese carrier models. These specifications are useful when checking a model against a network, but they do not establish coverage, connection availability or speeds in a particular place.
