No. The Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra is water-resistant, not waterproof. Samsung rates it IP68 and specifies testing in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Those are controlled test conditions, not a guarantee that every phone will survive every contact with water.
What the Note20 Ultra’s IP68 rating means
Samsung’s product announcement gives the Note20 Ultra an IP68 rating, with the stated freshwater test condition of up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. Samsung’s announcement describes the rating; it does not make the phone impervious to water damage. The Note20 series manual explicitly warns that the device is not impervious to dust and water damage in every situation. Samsung’s manual also cautions against exceeding the depth or duration limits.

In practical terms, treat IP68 as limited resistance under specified test conditions—not permission to deliberately submerge the phone. The rating is for freshwater, and Samsung Korea Service cautions that saltwater, pool water, soapy water, and other contaminated or chemical liquids can pose a risk. Its guidance also notes that resistance may weaken over time and with use. That guidance applies to Samsung Korea Service’s support information.
Can you take the Note20 Ultra in a pool or the sea?
It is best not to. A pool or sea is not the freshwater exposure described in Samsung’s IP68 test condition. Samsung Korea Service specifically cautions against pool water and saltwater, as well as soapy or contaminated liquids. Avoid treating the rating as protection for swimming, bathing, or other planned water activities.

Water pressure and the phone’s condition matter too. The manual says not to expose the device to high-pressure water and warns that a drop or impact can damage its water- and dust-resistant features. A phone that has been dropped or used for years may not retain the same resistance it had when new.
What to do if your Note20 Ultra gets wet
- Do not charge it while wet. Samsung’s manual advises against charging the device when it is wet.
- Dry it carefully after freshwater exposure. Use a clean, soft cloth and dry the phone thoroughly.
- Rinse off other liquids with fresh water, then dry it. Samsung’s manual gives this advice for exposure to a liquid other than fresh water. Avoid high-pressure water.
- Let wet speakers and microphones dry. Samsung notes that moisture in these parts can affect call sound until they are fully dry.
Follow the manual’s care instructions rather than testing whether the phone still works by charging it or exposing it to more water.

Does Samsung’s warranty cover water damage?
Samsung’s U.S. product announcement says, “Water damage not covered by warranty.” That statement is from Samsung’s U.S. announcement; it should not be treated as a universal warranty rule for every country, plan, or circumstance. Check the warranty terms that apply to your device and market.

Should you use a waterproof pouch?
For planned water activities, an optional phone pouch may add a barrier, but the cited Samsung sources do not endorse a particular pouch or establish how well one performs. A pouch does not change the phone’s IP68 rating, and it should not be treated as a guarantee against water damage.
