The manufacturer specifies a 500 × 260 mm cabinet cutout, a 150 mm duct outlet and different minimum clearances for gas and electric or induction cooktops. It can be installed for external exhaust or recirculation, but recirculation needs additional ducting, a louvered vent and two carbon filters. CHOICE identifies the model as discontinued; its public ducted-review page does not reveal the detailed test scores needed to make a test-based recommendation.
Check the cabinet opening before considering the review scores
The HP60IDCHX2 is designed for a 600 mm cabinet context, but its published overall width is 530 mm. The cabinet cutout specified by Fisher & Paykel is 500 × 260 mm and should be centered. Measure the actual cabinet opening and appliance space rather than relying on the nominal cabinet size alone.

The two documents report different overall-height figures and should not be treated as one interchangeable measurement. The 2015 datasheet says dimensions may vary by ±2 mm. The later guide is edition 104077E 06.19 and is marked NZ/AU/ROW; Fisher & Paykel cautions that specifications can vary by market and change over time. Use the current installation instructions for your location and installation, and confirm the dimensions against the actual unit and cabinetry.

Installation clearances
The 2019 guide specifies 600–750 mm between the hood and an electric cooktop, and 650–750 mm above a gas cooktop. It notes that positioning the hood lower within the permitted range improves capture of odours, grease and smoke. Follow the applicable local requirements and the instructions for your cooktop as well as the hood guide.

Choose between external exhaust and recirculation
External exhaust
External venting uses a 150 mm duct. The manufacturer recommends a short, straight duct run: elbows and transitions increase noise and reduce airflow efficiency. The guide lists a 150 mm ducting adapter with a non-return flap in the packaging.
Recirculation
Recirculation is not a duct-free installation. The manufacturer specifies compatible carbon filters, 150 mm ducting and a 150 mm louvered vent positioned so filtered air can return to the kitchen. The guide says it is not permitted to discharge directly into the cabinet without ducting and a louvered vent.

Two carbon filters are required. The manufacturer lists part 792481 and recommends replacing the disposable filters at least every three months, depending on use. Check the appliance nameplate and local supplier before ordering parts; the cited guide does not establish current prices or stock.
What the controls and upkeep involve
Controls
The touch controls provide three fan speeds, lighting, power, a filter-cleaning alert and a timer. The timer runs for five minutes at the selected speed, then steps down through each lower speed before stopping. The light level can be adjusted by pressing and holding the light control.

Cleaning and replacement parts
- Remove and wash the aluminium grease filters at least monthly, with frequency depending on use. Dishwasher cleaning is allowed, though the guide warns that the filter frame may discolour.
- Replace recirculation carbon filters at least every three months, depending on use. They are disposable, not washable.
- The guide identifies the aluminium filter as part 792429 and the LED bulb as part 792603. Confirm the model on the appliance nameplate when checking compatibility.
What independent review evidence can—and cannot—tell you
CHOICE’s public ducted-model page marks the HP60IDCHX2 as discontinued and lists one fan, three speeds, a recommended 150 mm duct diameter and LED lighting. The ducted expert rating, performance, ease-of-use and noise scores are member-only on that page, so the public information does not support a claim that the model performs well or poorly in those categories.
CHOICE’s separate recirculating page reports a 53% score specifically for recirculating mode. That figure is not the ducted expert rating and should not be used as a proxy for ducted performance. The same page reports two carbon filters, replacement every three months, part reference 792481 and an annual filter price of $292. The year is not stated on the accessible page, so treat the price as a page-reported figure that may be stale, not a current supplier quote.

CHOICE also displays $1,049 on the ducted page, but the page’s discontinued status means that figure is not evidence of a current offer or availability. Verify the exact model, condition and seller before buying a remaining unit or replacement stock.

It may suit a renovation or replacement where the cabinet opening, cooktop clearance and 150 mm ventilation route match the manufacturer’s instructions. Recirculation is an option only if the installation can accommodate the required ducting, louvered vent and ongoing carbon-filter replacements. If you need an independently verified ducted performance or noise assessment, the publicly visible CHOICE information is insufficient to establish one.

Installation weighs 8.2 kg and the guide calls for two people. Electrical work and installation should be carried out by a suitably qualified person under applicable local requirements. Since the cited guide is a 2019 NZ/AU/ROW edition and CHOICE marks the model discontinued, check current local documentation and availability before planning around this appliance.
