The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) is easiest to justify if you plan to keep your phone for years and value being able to replace parts yourself. At $649.99 in the US, its 12 user-replaceable parts and software support promised through 2033 are compelling, but TechRadar’s October 2026 review judged similarly priced Samsung, Google, and Motorola phones stronger for performance and cameras. The premium is therefore a trade-off: longevity and repair access over maximum hardware value.
What the Fairphone Gen. 6+ offers for $649.99

Its core hardware includes a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor, a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED display, a 50MP main camera and a 4,415mAh removable battery. The phone is rated IP55 and supports microSD cards up to 2TB. These are capable midrange specifications, but they do not by themselves explain the price premium.

Is the Fairphone Gen. 6+ worth the price?
That depends on what you value. If your priority is performance or camera capability per dollar, TechRadar’s October 2, 2026 review says similarly priced Samsung, Google and Motorola phones offer more. The review also argues that the price premium over the standard Gen. 6 is hard to justify for the relatively limited upgrades. These are the reviewer’s value judgments, not a comprehensive benchmark ranking of every competing model. TechRadar’s review
The stronger case is for someone who expects to use one phone for a long time and would rather replace a worn or damaged component than replace the whole device. The repairable design and long support commitment have practical value only if you use them: buying at a premium does not guarantee that repairs will be cheaper overall or that you will keep the phone long enough to benefit.

How repairable is it, and what does that mean for ownership?
Fairphone advertises 12 user-replaceable parts, making repair access the Gen. 6+’s clearest distinction. Parts availability and the modular design can make certain repairs more accessible, but the number of replaceable parts is not a measure of lifetime savings. Your total cost also depends on the price and availability of the specific part in your country, your repair skills, warranty coverage and how long you keep the phone.
Fairphone’s support guidance says buying spare parts directly can avoid labor and shipping fees for out-of-warranty issues. It also says warranty-defect claims must be diagnosed by its service center. The reviewed repair guidance is for Europe, so its prices and procedures should not be assumed to apply in the US. How long will it receive updates?
Fairphone promises software support through 2033 and lists a warranty of up to five years. Its launch announcement also promises six OS upgrades. Treat these as manufacturer commitments: they describe the support Fairphone says it will provide, not proof of a guaranteed ownership lifespan or a prediction that every buyer will keep the handset until 2033. Check the warranty terms that apply in your country before purchase. Fairphone product details Fairphone’s launch announcement

Who should buy the Fairphone Gen. 6+?
- Consider it if repairability and long-term software support matter more to you than getting the strongest camera or performance at this price.
- Be cautious if you usually replace phones quickly, want the best conventional specs for your budget, or cannot confirm that your carrier supports it.
- Compare it with the standard Gen. 6 if you want the Fairphone repairability proposition at a lower price; TechRadar identifies that model as the less expensive alternative, though the reviewed sources do not establish its current US price.
