The Dreaming City is available in Destiny 2 as of Bungie’s June 9, 2026 Update 9.7.0 support guide, and Bungie has not announced a date for its removal. That is a statement about its current status, not a promise that it will remain indefinitely. Bungie has separately said it has started work to bring some vaulted content back, but has not named the Dreaming City or given a schedule.
Is the Dreaming City being vaulted?
No announced vaulting is established by Bungie’s current status information. The Update 9.7.0 support guide lists The Dreaming City among Destiny 2’s available destinations and says content present before or added in the update would remain available on and after June 9, 2026.

Bungie has not stated that the Dreaming City will stay forever, either. Its published information supports a narrower conclusion: the destination was available at the June 2026 update, and no destination-specific departure date has been announced in the cited material.
Why players ask about the Destiny Content Vault
The Destiny Content Vault (DCV) is Bungie’s system for cycling selected destinations and activities out of Destiny 2. Bungie says vaulted content has the potential to return, and its current DCV help page says Destiny 2 expansions stopped being vaulted in August 2022, while seasonal content continues to move into the vault when a new expansion launches.
#1 Best Overall
- From the makers of the acclaimed hit game Destiny, comes the much-anticipated sequel
- An action shooter that takes you on an epic journey across the solar system
- Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion
- To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home
When Bungie explained the approach in 2020, it said the game’s growing size and complexity made updates, testing, and maintenance harder. The studio described vaulting as a way to manage the game’s scale while retaining the possibility of bringing older content back. That policy concerns selected content; it does not guarantee any single destination will always remain available. Bungie’s 2020 explanation put it this way: “Content that goes into the Destiny Content Vault may return in the future, altered (if necessary) to fit the new state of the universe.”
What happened to the Dreaming City during the earlier vaulting decision?
In its 2021 vaulting update, Bungie said the Forsaken campaign and Tangled Shore would enter the DCV with The Witch Queen’s launch, while the Dreaming City destination would continue to be available. That was the decision for that specific transition. It is useful history, but it is not an unlimited guarantee against future changes.

What changed in 2026?
Planned live-service content updates ended
Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 guide says Destiny 2 would receive no planned live-service content updates after the update, released June 9, 2026. Bungie left open the possibility of hotfixes for game health and stability. The guide’s destination listing is the most direct evidence of the Dreaming City’s availability at that point. Bungie’s Monument of Triumph launch post confirms the update went live and describes related changes, but the support guide is the source for the destination list and access status.

Bungie began work to restore some vaulted content
In a later announcement, Bungie said it had begun work to bring vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids back into the game. It explained that the work involves updating lighting, encounters, combatants, and other systems that have changed since Beyond Light, and said it would share more details in the months ahead. The announcement does not identify the Dreaming City as either a planned vault target or a restoration target, and it provides no schedule for its long-term status.

What to treat as confirmed—and what remains unknown
- Confirmed for June 2026: Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 support guide listed the Dreaming City as an available destination and said then-available content would remain available on and after June 9, 2026.
- Confirmed as history: Bungie kept the Dreaming City available during the specific 2021 vaulting transition that removed the Forsaken campaign and Tangled Shore.
- Not announced in the cited Bungie material: a Dreaming City removal date, a plan to vault it, or a guarantee that it will remain indefinitely.
- Separate from its status: Bungie’s broad work to restore vaulted content does not establish any change to the Dreaming City.
For players deciding whether to visit or complete activities there, the latest cited direct status is that the destination was available after Update 9.7.0. For any later change, rely on a new Bungie announcement or updated support information rather than treating the 2021 decision or general restoration plans as a forecast.
