“XPS 13” describes a family of laptops, not one fixed internal design. iFixit’s index lists distinct models including the 9300, 9310, 9340, 9345 and 9360. A procedure or compatibility detail for one generation should not be assumed to apply to another.

RAM: can you upgrade XPS 13 memory?
Do not assume you can. LaptopMedia’s 2024 guide reports that the XPS 13 9340 has soldered memory, which rules out a post-purchase RAM upgrade on the described configuration. The evidence here does not establish memory construction for every other XPS 13 generation, so check the exact model’s documentation before buying.
SSD: a possible storage upgrade
The 9310 manual documents removable M.2 2230 and 2280 SSDs, and the 9340 guide describes an M.2 slot supporting 2230 or 2280 Gen 4 SSDs. Those details make an M.2 NVMe SSD a plausible upgrade for those documented models, but they are not a universal compatibility guarantee. Verify the drive length, interface and configuration against your laptop’s service manual before ordering.

Battery: replacement is not an upgrade
Dell’s manuals document battery replacement for the 9310 and 9350, and the 9340 guide reports a replaceable battery. A replacement restores a serviceable component; it does not imply that a different-capacity battery or any battery advertised for another XPS 13 will fit. Use the Service Tag lookup or the model-specific manual to identify the correct part.

A documented service procedure establishes that a component can be serviced; it does not establish that the job is easy, inexpensive or risk-free. A part may require substantial disassembly, and some components may be integrated into larger assemblies. Follow the full service manual for your model, including its safety precautions, rather than relying on a procedure for a similar-looking XPS 13.

Dell states: “Customers have the option to continue to self-repair, upgrade, and maintain their Dell devices after their original hardware warranty has expired.” That option does not make every repair appropriate for every owner. If you are unsure about disassembly or part compatibility, Dell also lists out-of-warranty service routes.

- Identify the model. Use the Service Tag or serial number on Dell Support to locate the matching product page, documentation and parts.
- Read the exact service manual. Confirm that it documents the component as individually removable and review all prerequisites and safety instructions.
- Check specifications before ordering. For an SSD, confirm the supported M.2 length and interface for your configuration. For a battery or other part, confirm the model-specific part match.
- Prepare model-appropriate tools. Dell’s XPS 13 9350 manual lists a Phillips screwdriver, flat-head screwdriver, Torx #5 (T5) screwdriver and plastic scribe among tools its procedures may require. Do not assume every generation uses the same bits or tools.
Use the exact model’s manual to guide the repair. A precision screwdriver kit with the required bits and a plastic opening tool may be useful, but the 9350 tool list is not a universal specification for the XPS 13 family.
