Its main drawbacks are less forceful HDR brightness than some rivals, QD-OLED blacks that can look purple in a bright room, a space-hungry stand and no USB-C downstream port. It is most compelling when your gaming PC can make use of both its resolution and refresh rate.
What you get with the PG32UCDM
ASUS specifies a 31.5-inch viewable QD-OLED panel with 3840 × 2160 resolution, a 240 Hz refresh rate, 0.03 ms gray-to-gray response, 99% DCI-P3 color coverage and true 10-bit color. The 0.03 ms figure is the manufacturer’s rated pixel-response specification, not an end-to-end input-latency measurement. ASUS also lists DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, HDMI 2.1 and USB-C with up to 90 W power delivery. ASUS product specifications

ASUS identifies the screen as a third-generation QD-OLED and lists Dolby Vision and HDR10 support. The company says its custom heatsink, airflow design and graphene film are intended to manage heat and reduce burn-in risk; those design measures do not guarantee that burn-in cannot happen. Sharp 4K image with OLED contrast
At this screen size, 4K makes fine detail clear in games and on the desktop. PCWorld measured roughly 137 pixels per inch and praised the deep blacks and vivid color. OLED’s pixel-level light control gives dark scenes strong contrast, while QD-OLED brings saturated color. PCWorld’s March 11, 2024 review
#1 Best Overall

- Convenient Monitor Control: DisplayWidget Center allows users to access OLED Care functions, as well as adjust monitor settings with a mouse
Clear, fast motion
The 240 Hz refresh rate can show up to 240 frames per second when the source and connection support it. OLED pixels switch quickly, helping moving objects remain clear; PCWorld singled out motion clarity as a standout. The benefit is most relevant for fast-paced games, but reaching high frame rates at 4K also places substantial demands on the graphics hardware.
Useful laptop and multi-PC connections
USB-C can carry a display signal and deliver up to 90 W of power, which can simplify a laptop setup. RTINGS also notes a KVM switch for sharing peripherals between computers. Together, these features are useful when switching between a gaming desktop and a work laptop. RTINGS review

Flat screen rather than curved
The PG32UCDM has a flat panel. PCWorld preferred that shape over curved alternatives for its own use, though this is a matter of preference rather than a universal advantage. A flat screen may suit people who want a conventional desktop display or do not want the edges angled toward them.

Tradeoffs to weigh before buying
HDR support does not guarantee standout brightness
The monitor supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, but format support is not the same as high peak brightness. PCWorld found that HDR lacked the luminance impact of stronger HDR displays and rated brightness as a drawback, even though the monitor’s SDR picture was strong. ASUS’s February 2024 announcement lists 250 cd/m² at 100% APL and a typical contrast ratio of 1,500,000:1; these are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. ASUS announcement

Bright-room lighting can affect perceived blacks
RTINGS reports that QD-OLED blacks may look slightly purple in bright ambient light. It notes that a WOLED alternative retains low black levels better in those conditions. If the screen will face a sunny window or sit in a brightly lit room, compare how the panel types behave under your lighting rather than judging contrast from a dark-room demo alone.
The supplied stand takes up room
PCWorld found the stand wide and deep, so it can crowd a shallow desk. The monitor supports a 100 × 100 mm VESA mount, making a compatible arm or stand an option. Check the mount’s load rating and desk-clamp fit before choosing one. PCWorld review

- Dual Mode Display Technology: 32-inch 4K (3840 x 2160) WOLED gaming monitor with versatile dual mode (4K @ 240 Hz or FHD @ 480 Hz)
- ROG-Exclusive OLED Anti-Flicker Technology: Helps reduce the flicker during refresh-rate fluctuations for more comfortable viewing during extended gaming sessions
- Advanced AI Assistant Features: Provides dynamic AI Crosshair, AI Sniper, and AI Visual functions for improved gaming experiences
- Uniform Brightness Setting: Optional uniform brightness setting ensures consistent luminance levels across the entire display
- DisplayWidget Center Software: Allows users to easily access OLED Care functions and adjust monitor settings using a mouse
USB-C is not a full downstream dock
The USB-C input provides up to 90 W of charging, but PCWorld reports that the monitor lacks a USB-C downstream port. Do not assume that connecting a laptop to the display also gives you USB-C expansion for additional devices.

OLED still needs sensible care
ASUS’s thermal design is intended to reduce burn-in risk, not eliminate it. For long desktop sessions with static elements such as taskbars or application panels, follow the current manual’s OLED-care guidance and avoid treating the panel as immune to image retention.

How it compares with close QD-OLED alternatives
RTINGS groups the Dell Alienware AW3225QF, MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED and Gigabyte AORUS FO32U2P with the PG32UCDM as monitors using the same generation of 32-inch 4K QD-OLED panel. That shared panel generation does not make the monitors identical: their shape, features and VRR behavior differ. RTINGS comparison notes
- Shape: The Alienware is curved; the ASUS is flat.
- VRR behavior: RTINGS notes less VRR flicker on the MSI.
- Formats and features: ASUS adds Dolby Vision, alongside other feature differences between models.
- Room and desk fit: Consider ambient-light behavior, stand footprint and whether you prefer a curved or flat screen.
Because current prices vary by region and date, compare local prices and availability when deciding value rather than relying on the PG32UCDM’s launch-era price. PCWorld reported a $1,299 MSRP in its March 2024 review; that is historical pricing, not a current offer.
Quick Recap
Who should buy it?
- Good fit: You want a flat 4K OLED gaming display with 240 Hz motion, vivid color, strong dark-room contrast, and USB-C charging for a laptop.
- Look more closely at alternatives: You play in a bright room and are sensitive to how QD-OLED blacks appear, want stronger HDR brightness, need USB-C downstream expansion, or have limited desk depth.
- Check your PC first: Consider whether your graphics hardware can drive the games you play at 4K and high frame rates. The monitor can refresh at 240 Hz, but your system and game determine how often that potential is reached.
