The ADATA SC735 is a tiny, cable-free-to-carry USB-C SSD built for convenience: it weighs 13.6g, has a retractable USB-C plug, and is rated for sequential reads up to 1,050 MB/s and writes up to 1,000 MB/s. Those peak figures are not guaranteed transfer speeds, and large continuous writes can slow substantially. It makes the most sense for everyday portable storage and compatible phones or computers—not for buyers who need consistently fast long writes or a sturdier-feeling enclosure.
What the ADATA SC735 offers
ADATA lists the SC735 in 1TB and 2TB capacities, in blue or grey. Its plug retracts into the body, so a separate cable is unnecessary when connecting to a compatible USB-C port. ADATA’s launch announcement described the connector as a way to eliminate external cables; that convenience is the drive’s defining feature, rather than a promise of a particular real-world speed. See ADATA’s SC735 product page and 2025 datasheet.

| Specification | ADATA listing |
|---|---|
| Capacities | 1TB and 2TB |
| Dimensions and weight | 55 × 28.5 × 12.1mm; 13.6g |
| Connector | Retractable USB Type-C |
| Interface | USB 3.2 Gen2, also described as USB 10Gbps; backward compatible with USB 2.0 |
| Maximum sequential ratings | Read: 1,050 MB/s; write: 1,000 MB/s |
| Warranty | 5-year limited warranty |
These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. ADATA says optimal performance requires a USB 3.2 Gen2 connection and UASP support, and that results vary with the system and software. A slower port, adapter, host, or workload can keep the drive well below its maximum ratings.
How fast is it in real use?
The advertised sequential speeds describe a ceiling for suitable conditions; they do not tell the whole story for a large file copy. In its November 5, 2025 review, PCWorld tested a 2TB sample using CrystalDiskMark and 48GB transfer and 450GB write tests. The sample exhausted its secondary cache before the 450GB write finished, showing that a long, continuous write can fall far below the peak rating. That result applies to PCWorld’s sample and test method, but it is an important qualification for users who routinely move large video projects, backups, or other multi-hundred-gigabyte files. Read the PCWorld review for its methodology and findings.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For everyday documents, photos, and smaller transfers, peak sequential write performance may matter less than the convenience of having no cable to pack. If frequent large writes are central to your work, compare independent sustained-write testing and enclosure design rather than choosing on the headline 1,000 MB/s figure alone.
Is the small enclosure durable?
ADATA claims the SC735 meets MIL-STD-810G 516.6 impact resistance for drops up to 1.22m. This is a specific drop-resistance claim, not a water- or dust-resistance rating. ADATA’s separate SD820 has IP68 ratings; those ratings do not apply to the SC735. The manufacturer’s SC735 product information and datasheet describe the SC735’s claims.

TechRadar’s reviewer found the casing flexy and plastic-feeling, while praising the compact size and connector convenience. That is an observation about the reviewed sample, not proof that every unit will fail. The drive also lacks a lanyard loop. For rough professional field use, a firmer-feeling or more protective enclosure may be a better fit. See TechRadar’s review.
Will it work with your phone, computer, or console?
ADATA lists Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series compatibility, but its 2025 datasheet specifies minimum operating-system versions: Windows 10/11, macOS 13 or later (formatting required), Linux Kernel 6 or later, and Android 13 or later. The global product page lists broader legacy minimums, so the compatibility lists are not identical. Check the current requirements for your specific host and connection rather than treating the product page as a guarantee for every older device.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Phones and tablets: A USB-C connector alone is not enough. The device must support external SSD or OTG storage and supply adequate power. On Android, ADATA recommends safely removing the drive after copying to reduce the risk of corruption.
- Windows, macOS, and Linux: A computer needs a compatible USB-C port or suitable adapter. To use the same drive across operating systems, choose a file system supported by all of your intended devices; formatting erases existing data, so back up first.
- PS5 and Xbox Series: ADATA lists these consoles as compatible for external storage. Storing games is not the same as running every current-generation title from the external drive; check the console maker’s current rules for which games can be played from external storage.
ADATA’s support page also raises questions about formatting, a PC not recognizing an SSD, and connecting one to a smart TV. For detection problems, try another USB port and confirm that the host supports the drive and file system. Smart-TV behavior depends on the model and its storage support; the SC735’s USB-C plug does not establish universal TV compatibility. ADATA’s support material is available through its product page.
Which capacity and price should you consider?
The official global product page and 2025 datasheet list 1TB and 2TB versions. TechRadar reported UK/US prices of £54/$50 for 512GB, £79/$75 for 1TB, and £129/$120 for 2TB. PCWorld reported $80 for 1TB and $150 for 2TB in its November 2025 review. These dated regional observations differ, and the 512GB listing is not among the capacities on the official page and datasheet cited here. Treat the figures as historical reports, not current or universal prices. Check local stock, the exact SKU, and current pricing before buying.

- Good fit: Travelers and everyday users who value minimal weight, a built-in USB-C connector, and portable storage for compatible hosts.
- Conditional fit: Phone and console owners who have checked their device’s external-storage support, power needs, formatting, and play rules.
- Look elsewhere if: You regularly write very large files at high sustained speeds, need water or dust protection, or want an enclosure that feels more robust for demanding field work.
The SC735 is a convenience-first portable SSD, not a sustained-write specialist. Its strongest argument is carrying a very small drive without a cable; its peak speed ratings, enclosure feel, host compatibility, and local price all need to be weighed against the job you want it to do.
