Do you need Ultra to stream to YouTube?
Not if YouTube is your only destination. Streamlabs says its free Dual Output feature supports one horizontal and one vertical platform. Its multistreaming guide says Ultra is required for more than two total platforms, multiple platforms of the same orientation, or additional destinations. The exact need therefore depends on how many platforms you stream to and whether your outputs are horizontal or vertical.
- One YouTube destination: Free Streamlabs Desktop may be enough for the streaming-software part of the setup.
- One horizontal and one vertical output: Streamlabs describes this Dual Output case as free.
- More destinations or multiple platforms with the same orientation: Streamlabs says Ultra is needed for the described multistreaming cases.
Streamlabs’ getting-started material also discusses Desktop multistream functionality. Check the current feature descriptions for your exact workflow rather than assuming that every output combination is included in the free tier.

What a 24/7 desktop broadcast still requires
A desktop stream is not simply a subscription setting. YouTube identifies encoder software or hardware as a way to stream, and enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. - Recording: Keep a local recording if you need a dependable copy of the full program. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Can YouTube archive a 24/7 livestream?
Do not rely on YouTube to preserve one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast as a complete archive. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and states: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” For a continuous channel, plan how to retain recordings independently and how to make replays available if you need them.
Is Ultra worth paying for?
It may be worth it if you will use the bundle
Ultra’s case is strongest when you need the multistreaming destinations covered by its paid plan and expect to use other included features such as premium overlays, widget themes, the Desktop App Store or creator-suite tools. Compare those benefits with the current checkout price and what you already use.
