Yes. Smaller satellite operators can access public space situational awareness (SSA) data and spaceflight safety services, as well as commercial data and analysis. In the United States, NOAA’s Office of Space Commerce is onboarding civil and private users to its Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS); Europe’s EU SST is another public option. Access does not mean every service offers the same coverage, alert cadence, analysis, or operational assurance, so operators should match a service to their orbit and mission needs.
What SSA services can smaller operators access?
U.S. civil service: TraCSS
NOAA’s Office of Space Commerce (OSC) is developing TraCSS to provide basic SSA data and spaceflight safety services to civil and private spacecraft operators. OSC says owner/operator registration is open and explains how to register on its TraCSS FAQ. The service is intended to support coordination, but operators should check current onboarding and production status rather than assume that every feature is fully operational.

U.S. military service: Space-Track.org
TraCSS and Space-Track.org are initially operating in parallel. OSC says the U.S. military will continue monitoring objects and maintaining the authoritative catalog while the civil transition proceeds; its FAQ does not say Space-Track will shut off immediately. The official FAQ is the place to check current transition details.
European public service: EU SST
EU SST is another public SSA service for spacecraft operators. An OSC comparison study completed in August 2024 said the United States and European Union were committed to providing SSA services to operators around the world free of charge. The same study cautioned that both systems and their offerings were evolving, so its comparison should not be treated as a current service-level guarantee. See OSC’s August 2024 technical comparison.

Commercial data and analysis
Commercial SSA companies use ground-based sensors and sell data or licenses. A U.S. Government Accountability Office report describes the sector’s potential to fill geographic sensor-coverage gaps and supply unclassified data that can be shared. NOAA has also evaluated commercial tracking data, analysis, and operator feedback through a space traffic coordination pilot. Those sources establish a commercial option, but do not establish current vendor prices, signup terms, or comparable service-level performance. See the GAO report and NOAA pilot announcement.
How available is TraCSS now?
As of August 2026, OSC reported 82 pilot user organizations comprising more than 11,370 satellites, along with 10 National Government Accounts, onboarded to TraCSS. That is evidence of substantial pilot participation, not proof that every operator is onboarded or that every desired capability is in production. OSC’s TraCSS page reports the figures; its FAQ says registration is being accepted and describes a move toward an anticipated 2026 production release. The FAQ also says the department is addressing known production-environment risks before publishing an updated integrated schedule. Check the current status when applying or planning an operational transition.

- 【DVB-S/S2/S2X Satellite Finder】GTMEDIA V8 Finder2 satellite signal meter supports DVB-S/S2/S2X satellite signal detection, spectrum analysis, loop search, and calculation of azimuth and elevation angles. Designed for satellite dish alignment and signal checking. Not compatible with DIRECTV or ATSC
- 【3.5-Inch LCD Screen & Setup Guide】View satellite lists, signal intensity and signal quality on the 3.5-inch LCD screen. To begin, connect the satellite LNB cable to LNB IN, open Menu > Installation, select the satellite, and configure the LNB settings. Select an active transponder, adjust the dish for signal quality and lock, then press the blue Scan key to search for channels
- 【Rechargeable Battery & Built-In Speaker】The V8 Finder2 digital satellite finder combines a built-in rechargeable battery, integrated speaker, and on-screen battery-level indicator for convenient on-site operation. Monitor the remaining battery level during satellite dish adjustments and recharge when the low-battery warning appears
- 【Satellite Finder & H.264 Decoder】Combining a satellite signal meter and DVB-S/S2/S2X receiver, the V8 Finder2 supports H.264 decoding and compatible free-to-air satellite channel viewing on the built-in screen. HDMI and AV outputs provide external display connections. Channel reception requires a compatible satellite dish, LNB, and correct installation settings
- 【Setup & Dish Alignment】Connect the satellite LNB cable to LNB IN, then open Menu > Installation. Select the target satellite and configure the LNB frequency, power, 22K, and DiSEqC settings to match the installation. Select an active transponder and slowly adjust the dish while monitoring Signal Quality and the Lock indicator. Once the signal is locked, press the blue Scan key to search for channels
How should an operator compare services?
Availability alone is not enough. Compare the service against the orbit, decision process, and data obligations of the spacecraft you operate.
- Orbit and coverage: Confirm support for your orbital regime—LEO, MEO, or GEO—and ask what objects and sensor regions are covered. GAO notes global sensor-distribution gaps and limited capability for deep-space objects in its commercial SSA report.
- What the service actually provides: Distinguish catalog or orbital data from routine conjunction screening, conjunction data messages, risk assessment, maneuver support, and operator-facing decision tools. NOAA’s pilot description distinguishes commercial data products, analytics, and services.
- Timeliness and operational fit: Ask about update and notification cadence, support during time-sensitive events, and how outputs integrate with your mission process. The cited official sources do not provide a common performance table; request these details directly from the provider.
- Access and data rights: Check eligibility, registration, licensing, permitted use, sharing rights, and how sensitive or proprietary operator data is handled. GAO discusses commercial data licensing. OSC’s March 2024 coordination vision supports openness while recognizing that sensitive or proprietary information may need protection.
- Interoperability: Confirm that the data formats fit your systems and use relevant common standards. OSC identifies CCSDS standards as widely adopted in the SSA community and freely available in its coordination vision.
- Assurance and responsibility: Understand what the provider warrants, what it disclaims, and what your team must independently validate. TraCSS is explicitly provided as-is, without a warranty that its data is error-free or that access will be uninterrupted; the FAQ gives the terms.
- Total cost: Separate any direct fee for a public service from internal staffing, system integration, and commercial-service expenses. The available official sources do not establish comparable current commercial prices.
Is the data free, and does it prevent collisions?
Public options can be free to users: OSC’s August 2024 comparison described the U.S. and EU services as free of charge. That does not settle the total cost of operating an SSA workflow, which may include integration, staff time, or separately purchased commercial services. Nor does access to tracking data guarantee collision prevention. OSC states that TraCSS is provided “as is,” without warranties that data will be error-free or access uninterrupted. Operators should treat public feeds and commercial products as inputs to their own mission procedures, not as a guarantee that a collision will be avoided.

What can a small team use to test its own tools?
OSC publishes a free conjunction-assessment verification dataset with an answer key under CC0. It can help a team explore or test algorithms, but NOAA says it is not comprehensive and is not for live operations or formal system certification or validation. It is a test resource, not an operational alert feed. See the dataset page.
