Yes—if you want replayable arcade racing, not a story campaign. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers solo Grand Prix races against computer opponents and Time Trials, with changing courses and vehicle-and-gadget tuning to keep repeated runs fresh. A narrative campaign is not established by the official descriptions cited here. If cups and time improvement sound like enough, try the demo first; if you need story progression, wait for a sale or look elsewhere.
What can you do alone?
Race Grand Prix against computer opponents
SEGA describes Grand Prix as a single-player mode with seven competitions against COM opponents. That gives solo players a structured set of races, but it is not evidence of a story campaign or a long-form progression narrative. SEGA’s official features page identifies the mode and its seven competitions.

Practice in Time Trial
Time Trial is the other confirmed solo activity. It shifts the goal from beating a field of racers to improving your driving on a course. Nintendo lists Time Trials among the game’s play options, and SEGA confirms that the mode is included in the demo. Nintendo’s U.S. listing describes the available play options.
Do not buy it expecting a documented story campaign
The official feature and store descriptions reviewed here document races, competitions and Time Trials, but do not establish a narrative campaign. That distinction matters: “single-player” means you can race solo, not that the game offers a story-led adventure.

Will the solo racing stay varied?
Courses change during a race
The Travel Ring mechanic sends racers into a CrossWorld after the first lap, changing the course for the second lap before they return to the original track for the final lap. SEGA says course aspects can change again on that return lap. Nintendo’s U.S. listing gives the scale of the course set as 24 tracks and 15 CrossWorlds; these are official listing counts, not an independent assessment of how distinct each route feels.
Vehicles and gadgets invite experimentation
Nintendo lists 45 original vehicles and 70 gadgets. SEGA describes gadgets as abilities that affect playstyle, so the appeal is not only learning a track but trying different setups. The range may take some getting used to: PC Gamer reviewer Mollie Taylor said the gadgets initially felt overwhelming, then became rewarding after she found combinations suited to her playstyle. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a guarantee that every player will enjoy the system.

Does it suit your idea of single-player value?
| What you want | How CrossWorlds fits |
|---|---|
| Replayable races | Good fit: Grand Prix provides seven competitions against COM opponents. |
| A skill-based activity beyond races | Good fit: Time Trial focuses on improving driving performance. |
| Freshness across repeated runs | Potential fit: Travel Rings change the course during a race, and vehicle and gadget choices add tuning options. |
| A story campaign | Not established by the official descriptions cited here; do not treat solo modes as proof of one. |
| Simple racing with few setup choices | Potential mismatch: the gadget selection may feel overwhelming at first, according to PC Gamer reviewer Mollie Taylor. |
The clearest case for buying is that you enjoy the driving itself and want to revisit races to improve or try another setup. The weaker case is buying at full price mainly to get a substantial solo campaign or a broad collection of non-racing activities; the documented solo offer centers on races and time improvement.

SEGA’s demo update notice, dated March 19, 2026, says the demo includes Grand Prix and Time Trial, making it a practical test of the core solo loop. It includes four characters, eight courses (three main courses and five CrossWorlds), 15 machines (12 on the Nintendo Switch demo) and 20 gadgets. Demo save data can carry into the full game, but Time Trial results do not upload to the full game’s leaderboard. The demo excludes online and local multiplayer, so it can help you judge solo racing but not the social modes. See SEGA’s demo update notice for those details.

What about price and other ways to play?
There is no current universal price established here: storefronts, platforms, territories and sales can differ. Check your platform’s live listing and confirm the edition before buying. PC Gamer’s January 16, 2026 review discussed a $70 asking price in its review context and argued that the value depends on how much a player wants chaotic racing and tuning; that is a dated review context and an individual critic’s judgment, not a current price quote. Taylor’s conclusion was that the game could be worth that amount for players seeking those qualities. Read the PC Gamer review with that date and context in mind.
If you are also weighing multiplayer, Nintendo’s U.S. listing specifies one-system play for one to four players, local wireless for two to eight and online play for two to twelve. Those capacities depend on platform and mode, and they do not change the solo-focused verdict. SEGA’s launch announcement lists PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam and Epic Games Store; PC storefront releases were dated September 26, 2025, and other launch platforms September 25, 2025. Confirm present availability and compatibility in your own store. See SEGA’s launch announcement for the launch-platform details.
