RuneScape and Old School RuneScape already have mobile clients for iOS and Android. Jagex’s official download pages reviewed do not list either MMORPG for console. The PlayStation announcement that may cause confusion is for RuneScape: Dragonwilds, a separate survival-crafting game—not a console version of the RuneScape MMORPG.
What does “RuneScape 4” mean?
Jagex’s official pages identify the current MMORPG as RuneScape and its older, distinct version as Old School RuneScape. The sources reviewed do not use “RuneScape 4” as the official name for a separate game. A third title, RuneScape: Dragonwilds, draws on RuneScape’s world and lore but is a different game.

What is the PlayStation announcement about?
On June 2, 2026, Jagex announced that RuneScape: Dragonwilds was planned for PlayStation 5 later in 2026, with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium availability at launch. The announcement calls it the franchise’s first console title and explicitly says it is completely separate from the RuneScape MMORPG. At announcement time, Dragonwilds was available in Steam Early Access. Its planned PS5 release is not confirmation of a console port for RuneScape or Old School RuneScape. What to check before choosing a mobile device
- Confirm which game you want. Start from the official RuneScape or Old School RuneScape page. Do not assume that a store listing for one version applies to the other.
- Check the current system and hardware requirements. Jagex’s recommended-specifications page lists Android 9 or later with 4 GB RAM and iOS 13 or later with 3 GB RAM for both mobile clients in the specifications reviewed. It also states storage and graphics requirements. Confirm the current details for your device on Jagex’s recommended specifications page before installing.
- Check the actual store listing for your handset. Jagex warns that some devices may be unable to install or update to the latest version. A listed mobile platform does not guarantee that every phone or tablet is compatible. Use the relevant App Store or Play Store listing linked from the game’s official download page.
- Check your character and sign-in method. Jagex says a Jagex account can access the games through the Windows/macOS Launcher or mobile apps, and a linked character can still be played through Steam. Its account FAQ also says membership is bought at the character level and applies to both RuneScape versions for that character. Review the current guidance if you use Game Center or Steam, or plan to switch login methods: Jagex Accounts FAQ.
- Distinguish platform availability from full functionality. Jagex warns that Steam Deck users may encounter issues and that Steam Deck is not currently supported with full functionality. See the current specifications and support notes rather than treating Steam availability as a guarantee of complete device support.
