It is not automatically a good deal: compare the live First and Business fares with the points required and the reward’s taxes, fees and carrier charges. If only a fare-linked Classic Plus option is available, or you would rather keep your points for another use, cash or Business may be the better choice.
Start with the options available for your dates
Make the comparison using the same travel dates, routing and cabin conditions. A First Class cash fare is only the right benchmark if it is one you would genuinely buy; compare it with the Business fare you could actually book, too. Then check whether Qantas offers a Classic Flight Reward or a Classic Plus Flight Reward on your itinerary.

- Cash: use the fare you would really pay, including the applicable fare conditions.
- Classic Flight Reward: points are set by one-way distance zone and cabin, but reward-seat availability is limited.
- Classic Plus Flight Reward: points pricing fluctuates with normal fares and is more widely available.
Qantas says reward charges are payable in addition to points and shows the amount during booking. Compare the actual options displayed rather than assuming a fixed points rate or an available First seat. Qantas explains Classic Flight Reward availability and booking; its Classic Plus information describes that reward type.
How many Qantas Points is A380 First Class?
There is no single points price for every A380 First Class itinerary. Qantas’s Classic Flight Reward table, effective for bookings made from 5 August 2025, prices one-way rewards by distance zone and cabin. For First Class, zone 8 (7,001–8,400 miles) is 195,400 points, while zone 9 (8,401–9,600 miles) is 227,800 points. The table excludes taxes, fees and carrier charges. Check the exact itinerary and current table in the booking flow: a different distance zone changes the required points. See Qantas’s Classic Flight Reward table and terms.

- Officially licensed by Airbus & Qantas
- A380 style with landing gear
- Die cast metal w/ plastic parts
- Works with all other Airport Play Sets from Daron, including Qantas!
Those figures apply to Classic Flight Rewards, not every Qantas points booking. Classic Plus points pricing follows normal fares rather than the fixed zone table, so use the points amount and charges shown for the flight you can book.
What route-specific examples can—and can’t—tell you
Biirdee Travel reported a September 2026 fare-scan median of US$16,365 for a published round-trip First fare from Los Angeles to Sydney, compared with US$9,026 for Business. The publisher says the samples came from different requests and travel dates, so the roughly 1.8-to-1 comparison is illustrative, not a like-for-like quote or a universal First Class premium. For the same month, Biirdee Travel’s award scanner recorded 195,400 Qantas Points for a one-way Sydney–Los Angeles First Class reward on three observed departure dates, before taxes and carrier charges. That dated observation is not a promise that a seat is available now—or on other dates. Treat both examples as route-specific snapshots; for a decision, check Qantas’s current table and live fares and award inventory for your own itinerary.

Calculate the cash avoided per point
For a specific booking, estimate the cash avoided per point with this calculation:

- Great Product
(Comparable cash fare − reward taxes, fees and carrier charges) ÷ points required = estimated cash avoided per point
Use matching travel dates and routing, and choose the cash fare you would genuinely pay. For example, do not compare a round-trip cash fare with a one-way reward, or subtract charges from a fare for a different itinerary. The result describes that transaction; it is not a universal value for a Qantas Point. It also does not capture your preferred flexibility or what else you could do with the points. Qantas’s reward information sets out the points and charges mechanics.

When paying cash or choosing Business makes more sense
Using points for First is more compelling when the comparable cash fare is high, a fixed-price Classic Flight Reward seat is available for dates you can travel, and the cash avoided after charges makes sense for your points. Consider cash or Business instead when:

- There is no Classic First reward seat on your dates, or the only points option costs more than you consider worthwhile.
- The First fare is not one you would otherwise buy, making its sticker price a poor measure of what you save.
- The Business fare you can book is substantially more attractive for your budget.
- You prefer to retain the points for another redemption that matters more to you.
Availability and the live price, not a headline fare or a theoretical redemption rate, determine whether the choice works for your trip.
