Both can run Android, but they use different software interfaces—OxygenOS on OnePlus phones and One UI on Samsung phones. If you are choosing between them, compare the specific models rather than assuming the brands or their phones are interchangeable.
Why OnePlus and Samsung phones can seem similar
Both brands sell Android phones, so they share the underlying mobile platform and access to many of the same apps. That common foundation does not make OnePlus a Samsung brand or mean that one company makes the other’s phones. OnePlus’s official comparison page lists OnePlus-branded models, including the OnePlus 13 and 13R: OnePlus phone comparison.

The brand distinction is also reflected in their software names: OnePlus uses OxygenOS, while Samsung uses One UI. Those are different interfaces built on Android, not different names for the same software.
How their software differs—and why versions matter
A comparison by Android Authority examined a OnePlus 12 running Android 14 with OxygenOS 14.0.0.604 EX01 and a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra running Android 14 with One UI 6.1. It described One UI as offering many features and options, and noted that OxygenOS had moved away from its earlier stock-Android-like approach. Both interfaces offer customization in areas such as always-on displays. These observations apply to the tested phones and software versions, not automatically to every OnePlus or Samsung model or to later releases. Read the Android Authority comparison.

There is no single OnePlus-versus-Samsung answer for every shopper: each brand has multiple models, and a comparison is most useful when the phones are in a similar price tier. Check the exact regional versions and compare:
- Price and availability: Confirm current pricing and whether each model is sold in your region.
- Camera: Look at reviews or comparisons for the specific models, rather than assuming one brand is always better.
- Battery and charging: Compare model-specific battery-life results and charging capabilities.
- Display and size: Consider screen dimensions and the overall phone size that suits you.
- Software: Check the features and interface on the exact versions you are considering.
- Updates: Verify the update commitment for each specific model; support duration should not be inferred from the brand name alone.
The available comparison evidence does not establish which current Samsung phone is the best counterpart to a current OnePlus model, nor does it provide current head-to-head measurements or verified update-duration figures. Match particular models and consult current, region-specific product information before deciding.
