The collection brings together Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux. Play them in that order, and choose Survival for a slower, resource-conscious pace or Spartan for a more action-oriented one.
What is Metro Redux?
Metro Redux is a collection of revised versions of the first two Metro games: Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. The games are single-player first-person shooters that blend survival horror, exploration, stealth and tactical combat. Their world centers on survivors living in Moscow’s Metro after a nuclear catastrophe, with Artyom’s story connecting the two campaigns.

Redux is a revision, not a claim that every part of the games was remade from scratch. Steam says Metro 2033 Redux was rebuilt in the Last Light engine and gameplay framework, carrying over improvements to AI, controls, animation and weapon handling, along with changes to lighting, physics and dynamic weather. The Steam listing for Metro 2033 Redux describes those changes. The Steam listing for Metro: Last Light Redux also highlights additions such as melee animations, watch and ammunition checks, and full-body player animations.
What order should you play Metro Redux in?
- Start with Metro 2033 Redux. It introduces Artyom, the station-cities of the Metro and his mission to warn others about a threat.
- Continue with Metro: Last Light Redux. It is the sequel, set in 2034, and follows the events of the first game.
This order gives the story and setting their intended progression. If you buy the collection, Nintendo UK describes its Switch edition as including both complete campaigns and previously released DLC; check the listing for the exact platform and edition you are considering, since that inclusion should not be assumed for every storefront product.
#1 Best Overall
- Immerse yourself in the Moscow Metro - witness One of the most atmospheric worlds in gaming brought to life on Nintendo Switch
- Brave the horrors of the Russian Apocalypse - equip your gasmask and an arsenal of hand-made weaponry as you face the threat of deadly mutants, human foes, and the terrifying environment itself
- Two campaigns, and all DLC included - Metro Redux includes two complete campaigns that combine to create One epic solo adventure, plus a further 10 hours of bonus content
- Two unique play styles: 'spartan' And 'survival' - approach the campaign as a slow burn survival horror, or tackle it with the combat skills of a spartan ranger in these two unique modes
Which mode should a beginner choose?
Both games offer Survival and Spartan modes. These change the way the campaigns play; they are not separate games.
| Mode | What it emphasizes | Good fit if you want… |
|---|---|---|
| Survival | A slower survival-horror rhythm and greater resource tension | More emphasis on caution and the pressure of limited supplies |
| Spartan | A more action-oriented pace and stronger combat capability | More direct, combat-forward play |
These are descriptions of the modes, not a tested ranking of which is easier. For a first playthrough, choose based on the rhythm you prefer rather than assuming one is universally the beginner setting.
What is Ranger Mode?
Ranger Mode is an optional challenge mode. Official store descriptions say it removes HUD or UI elements, makes combat deadlier and limits resources. It is not necessary to understand the story, and a newcomer can leave it aside until they want a higher-pressure run.

What does playing Metro Redux feel like?
Expect to move through underground stations and hazardous environments while managing a gas mask and handmade weapons. The games combine encounters with mutants and human enemies with exploration, stealth and environmental threats. The result is a tense, atmospheric style of shooter rather than a purely fast-paced action campaign.
Both titles are designed for solo play; the storefronts identify them as single-player. On Switch, Nintendo lists handheld, tabletop and TV play, with one player on one system. The collection is therefore a fit for someone seeking a focused solo campaign, not multiplayer.

| Steam / PC | Steam has separate product pages for both Redux games. Its Metro Saga Bundle page displays both Redux titles alongside Metro Exodus and its Season Pass in the page snapshot. | Check the live bundle contents and your local price; bundle contents can change. |
| Xbox | The US Xbox Store lists a Metro Redux Bundle containing both Redux games and marks it playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. | Confirm availability and price in your region. The US listing showed $29.99 on October 3, 2026, a dated regional snapshot rather than a lasting price. |
| Nintendo Switch | Nintendo UK lists Metro Redux as a downloadable collection of both campaigns with previously released DLC. The listing supports handheld, tabletop and TV modes. | Confirm that you are viewing the Switch collection and that its contents match what you want. |
To judge value, compare the cost of the two games bought separately with the collection or a broader franchise bundle available in your region. Also check digital versus physical format, local pricing and hardware compatibility. There is no cross-platform performance comparison established here, so do not assume one platform has the best frame rate or image quality without checking platform-specific evidence.

For a newcomer who likes atmospheric, story-led shooters and is comfortable with a solo experience, the two-game collection offers a clear starting point and a continuous story to follow. It is less suited to someone looking primarily for multiplayer or an uncomplicated, nonstop action shooter. Its appeal rests on the combination of exploration, stealth, tactical fights and survival pressure, with two modes that let you choose between a slower or more action-forward approach.
Store popularity can offer context, but it is not a guarantee of quality. In a Steam snapshot accessed October 3, 2026, Metro: Last Light Redux had 88% positive English user reviews from 21,253 reviews; this is a changing user-review figure, not a critic score. Nintendo advertises “50+ hours” for its Switch collection, which is the publisher’s estimate, not a measured or guaranteed completion time.
