Arc System Works producer Takeshi Yamanaka described Episode Mode as blending American comics and Japanese manga into a storytelling format adapted for modern games. That explains the intended style, but does not establish the mode’s length or story quality.
Which modes can you play offline?
You do not need an online subscription just to access the game’s offline modes. The official FAQ lists the following offline content:

The officially listed platforms are PlayStation 5 and PC, with PC distribution through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The official platform information reviewed does not list Xbox or Nintendo Switch versions.

How much does it cost, and which edition makes sense?
Edition prices depend on region and can change. The US PlayStation Store displayed the Standard Edition at $59.99 and the Ultimate Edition at a discounted $84.99 when accessed on October 7, 2026. The store said the Ultimate offer ended October 22, 2026 UTC, and described it as 15% off its prior $99.99 price. That was a dated promotion, not a permanent price.

The February 2026 figures are launch MSRPs; the later US storefront promotion applied to Ultimate, not a new permanent MSRP. Check the store for your region before buying, and compare the edition extras with what you actually want rather than treating a temporary discount as the normal price.

Good fit: you want a fighter to play online
Ranked, Casual, Lobby, and Room Match options provide several ways to play online. The game is a stronger fit if those are central to your plans and you are comfortable with the connection and account requirements—and, on PS5, PlayStation Plus.
