RingConn Gen 2 Air: best sleep-first alternative without a fee
Tom’s Guide names the RingConn Gen 2 Air its best Oura alternative for most people, citing detailed sleep insights, no recurring subscription, and battery performance. The battery numbers reported by the two publications measure different things: Tom’s Guide says it observed eight days in testing, while WIRED lists up to 10 days as a product specification. They are not directly comparable guarantees.
Its appeal is strongest if you want overnight tracking and do not want another monthly bill. The trade-off is less developed interpretation than Oura, as described by Tom’s Guide, and limited fitness tracking. WIRED also notes that the Gen 2 Air does not detect sleep apnea; do not assume it has features found in the separate RingConn Gen 2 model.

Samsung Galaxy Ring: best for Samsung phone owners
Samsung describes three sensor types: an accelerometer for walking and running, an optical biosignal sensor for heart-rate monitoring, and a skin-temperature sensor that reads changes during sleep. Ring data transfers to Samsung Cloud through a Samsung account, and Samsung presents the data through Samsung Health. Reviewers describe the Galaxy Ring as having no required monthly subscription, but the fullest set of insights is most closely tied to using a Samsung phone.
This makes it a natural fit if your phone and health data already live in Samsung’s ecosystem. If you use another Android phone, confirm which features are available to you; do not assume the experience will match that of a Samsung-phone owner.
Amazfit Helio Ring: consider it only after checking local support
Tom’s Guide describes the Helio Ring as offering basic sleep, workout, and recovery tracking through the Zepp app on iOS and Android, with no subscription fee for basic features. Its product summary reports four days of battery life. The review also says deeper features that had previously been paid have changed to free, so check current app terms rather than relying on older descriptions.

In addition, the updated design is lighter, thinner and more comfortable, with a greatly improved wearing fit. It's so light that you can hardly feel it on your finger.
The larger caution is market uncertainty: Tom’s Guide reports that a US legal dispute could affect sales or support. That is a time-sensitive, US-specific concern, not proof of what will happen or a statement about every country. Check that the ring is currently sold and supported where you live before treating its lower cost as a practical saving.
What Oura Ring 4 costs and includes
Oura’s official US Ring 4 page lists a membership price of $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year after one free month for new members. The page describes sleep, activity, stress, heart-health, and cycle insights, as well as iOS and Android compatibility. Oura estimates Ring 4 battery life at five to eight days depending on ring size and lifestyle; that is a manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee for every wearer.
Keep model generations distinct when comparing prices or battery claims. TechRepublic’s September 2026 comparison lists US starting prices at publication of $399 for Oura Ring 5, $479 for Ultrahuman Ring PRO, $349 for RingConn Gen 3, and $399.99 for Samsung Galaxy Ring. These are dated listed prices subject to change, and they do not establish current stock or the cost of ownership over time.

How to compare rings for sleep and health tracking
Look at the membership, not just the purchase price
A ring with no required subscription can be a better fit if you want to keep using its basic insights without recurring fees. Oura’s membership price is a recurring US charge after the first month free for new members. Compare what features remain available without payment for the exact model and region you are considering; app terms can change.
Distinguish sleep data from actionable interpretation
All of these products present estimates and patterns through their apps. A ring may record sleep-related signals, but the value to you also depends on how clearly its app explains trends and helps you act on them. Tom’s Guide describes RingConn Gen 2 Air’s sleep insights as detailed while noting that its app insights are less mature than Oura’s. The reviewed comparisons do not establish independent clinical accuracy rankings across these rings.
Check your phone and account requirements
Compatibility can mean more than whether an app installs. RingConn Gen 2 Air is described by WIRED as compatible with iOS and Android. Samsung routes data through a Samsung account and Samsung Cloud and offers the fullest experience with Samsung phones. Amazfit’s Helio Ring uses Zepp on iOS and Android, according to Tom’s Guide. Check the manufacturer’s current regional requirements for the exact phone and features you plan to use.

Set realistic expectations for battery and activity tracking
Battery figures may be a manufacturer specification, an estimate, or a reviewer’s observation. For the RingConn Gen 2 Air, the reported eight-day Tom’s Guide test result and WIRED’s up-to-10-day specification are different evidence, not a single guaranteed range. Oura’s five-to-eight-day Ring 4 figure is also a manufacturer estimate affected by size and lifestyle. For workouts, note that Tom’s Guide calls RingConn Gen 2 Air’s fitness tracking limited; a sleep-focused ring may not replace a dedicated sports watch.
What smart-ring health scores can and cannot tell you
Smart rings are wellness devices, not clinical diagnoses. Their sleep, activity, heart-rate, temperature, and recovery-related outputs can help you notice patterns, but a score is not proof of a medical condition or a substitute for professional assessment. TechRepublic cautions that wearable metrics are not clinical diagnoses; no independent named sleep-accuracy study or cross-brand accuracy ranking is established by the cited comparisons.
Availability and newer models
TechRepublic’s September 2026 comparison also covers Ultrahuman Ring PRO, RingConn Gen 3, and Circular Ring 2. It reports that Ultrahuman PRO was in preorder and RingConn Gen 3 was out of stock in the US when that article appeared. Those are publication-time US status reports, not guarantees of current or global availability. Tom’s Guide also discusses US patent disputes and possible effects on sales or support for several brands, while describing a licensing arrangement for RingConn. Legal and stock conditions can change, so check current local availability and support before ordering.
