What kind of game is it?
Mafia: Definitive Edition follows Tommy Angelo, a cab driver drawn into organized crime in the Prohibition-era city of Lost Heaven. PlayStation describes it as a faithful but expanded remake, with visual and gameplay changes, an expanded narrative, motorcycles and collectibles. Its appeal is the mob story and cinematic presentation; it is a better fit for players seeking a directed narrative than for those expecting a broad, free-form crime sandbox.

2K says the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S release provides 60 FPS gameplay, improved loading times, increased resolution and bug fixes. These are publisher-stated features, not independent benchmark results: the cited material does not specify a target resolution or establish how consistently the game holds its frame rate. 2K’s support article calls it “the same great game from 2020, now with 60 FPS gameplay and technical improvements.”

The PlayStation Store lists PS5 Pro Enhanced status, DualSense vibration and trigger effects, offline play, one-player support and Remote Play. It does not explain what the Pro enhancement entails. PlayStation also notes that some PS4 features may be absent on PS5, so check the current listing if a specific feature matters.
Can you upgrade from PS4 for free?
According to 2K’s upgrade terms, eligible PS4 purchases made before August 14, 2026 receive a digital PS5 upgrade. The eligibility includes physical and digital editions as well as copies included in Mafia: Trilogy. A PS Plus monthly-game claim does not qualify.

What happens to PS4 saves and achievements?
PS4 saves and achievements do not carry over to PS5. If you have already played the PS4 edition, plan to start again rather than continue your existing progress. Who should play it on PS5?
- Good fit: Players who want a story-led, cinematic mob drama set in a recreated 1930s city, especially if the PS5 edition’s stated loading and visual improvements appeal to them.
- Less compelling: Players looking primarily for a large open-ended sandbox, or PS4 owners who do not want to restart and are not eligible for the free upgrade.
- Already own the PS4 edition: Check upgrade eligibility first; qualifying owners may not need to buy the game again.
- Considering a new purchase: Check the live PlayStation Store price. A promotion shown in a 2026 Store snapshot ended August 27, 2026, and is not a current price quote.
