Is Logitech Good for Sound Systems? What to Know Before You Buy

Logitech is a credible choice for many speaker setups, but its systems differ in channels, connections, controls, and footprint. Here’s how to compare the Z407, Z623, and Z906.

Yes—for many everyday computer, gaming, and home setups, Logitech is a credible speaker brand, but its sound systems vary widely. The catalog ranges from portable Bluetooth speakers and basic desktop stereo speakers to 2.1 systems with a subwoofer and 5.1 surround sound. The right choice depends on the setup you need, the devices you want to connect, and how much space and bass you want—not the brand name alone.

What “Logitech sound system” can mean

Logitech sells speakers for different uses and configurations. A compact desktop 2.1 set is not a substitute for a 5.1 surround system, and a portable Bluetooth speaker has different priorities from either. Start by deciding how many channels you need: 2.0 means two speakers, 2.1 adds a subwoofer, and 5.1 is designed for surround sound with multiple speakers and a subwoofer.

That distinction matters more than a broad brand reputation. Compare a specific model’s connections, placement, controls, and local price against your intended setup. Manufacturer power ratings and certifications describe specifications; on their own, they do not establish how good a system sounds or how reliable it is.

What the Logitech Z407 offers

The Z407 is a desktop 2.1 system: two speakers and a subwoofer, rather than a true 5.1 surround setup. Logitech lists Bluetooth, micro-USB, and 3.5 mm input, along with a wireless control dial. Its product page states 80 W peak and 40 W RMS total output, and lists a two-year limited hardware warranty. These are Logitech’s specifications, not independent sound-quality measurements; check the product details and warranty for your region at Logitech’s Z407 product page.

TechRadar’s review, updated 5 February 2024, praised the Z407’s compact sound and bass. It described the soundstage as good but not exceptional, and noted that the wireless control dial can be confusing at first. Those are review impressions of the Z407 specifically, not findings about every Logitech speaker. Read the TechRadar Z407 review for its full assessment.

How the Z407 compares with other Logitech configurations

Model Configuration and notable features Best fit to consider
Z407 2.1; subwoofer; Bluetooth, micro-USB, and 3.5 mm input; wireless control dial. Logitech states 80 W peak and 40 W RMS total output. Desktop users who want a subwoofer and several connection options.
Z623 2.1; THX-certified; subwoofer; two 3.5 mm jacks and RCA inputs. Logitech states 400 W peak and 200 W RMS. Users considering a wired 2.1 system with those inputs. The higher manufacturer-stated power rating does not by itself prove better sound.
Z906 5.1 system; Logitech lists THX, Dolby Digital, and DTS certification. Users specifically seeking a surround configuration and able to accommodate its room and speaker requirements.

Specifications and availability can differ by market. For the Z623, consult Logitech’s Z623 product page; Logitech’s speaker catalog lists its broader range, including the Z906. Check current inputs, compatibility, availability, and local warranty terms before choosing.

How to decide whether a Logitech system suits you

  • Match the channels to the job. Choose between stereo (2.0), stereo with a subwoofer (2.1), and surround (5.1) based on how you listen and how many speakers you can place.
  • Check device connections. Confirm that the system’s inputs match your computer, console, or other source. Bluetooth can help with wireless playback, while wired inputs may better suit a fixed desktop setup.
  • Plan for bass and space. A subwoofer adds a separate component to position. Consider whether you want that fuller low-frequency presence and have a suitable place for it.
  • Try to assess controls and placement. A dial or remote may be convenient, but check whether its operation suits your setup. Speaker and subwoofer placement can also affect the experience.
  • Compare total value locally. Current prices, stock, and warranty terms vary by region and can change. Compare the model’s actual configuration and features—not wattage alone—with other desktop options.

TechRadar has compared the Z407 with Creative Pebble Plus and also names Edifier MR4 in its desktop-speaker feature. These are starting points for comparing desktop speakers, not evidence of a complete market ranking or a direct listening comparison among all the models discussed here.

Verdict

Logitech is a reasonable brand to consider for everyday desktop, gaming, portable, and surround speaker needs, provided you choose a model that fits your setup. The Z407 illustrates the trade-off: it combines a compact 2.1 configuration, subwoofer, and multiple inputs, while one independent review praised its bass but found its soundstage less than exceptional and its control dial initially confusing. For a buying decision, prioritize configuration, compatibility, space, and local terms; no single model or wattage figure establishes that Logitech is the best choice for everyone.
