A D-U-N-S number is a unique nine-digit identifier assigned to an organization by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B). Google uses it to help verify the identity of organizations registering for Google Play developer accounts. Most organizations need to provide one; government organizations and some organizations unable to obtain one can ask Google about alternative verification.
Who needs a D-U-N-S number for Google Play?
Google’s organization verification process generally requires a D-U-N-S number. If you are registering as an individual rather than representing a business or official entity, the organization-account requirement does not apply. Check for an existing number before applying
Many organizations already have a D-U-N-S number, so search D&B’s official service before requesting one. Confirm that the result represents the legal entity or organizational unit you intend to associate with the developer account. Get your organization details aligned
Before submitting verification, compare the information on the D&B record with the organization’s Google payments profile and its business-registration document. Google says the organization name and address on the payments profile must match the D&B profile, and the business-registration name must also match the D&B name. How to get verified: the steps
- Choose the correct account type. Decide whether the developer account represents you personally or an organization. Use an organization account when registering on behalf of a business or official entity.
- Look up the D-U-N-S number. Search D&B for the organization and confirm that the record belongs to the entity whose details will appear in the developer account. If the organization has several records, select the appropriate one.
- Request a number if needed. Apply through D&B if no suitable existing record is available. Google describes the process as free and says it may take up to 30 days.
- Set up the organization’s Google payments profile. Check that its legal name and address match the D&B profile, and that the registration document supports the same organization name.
- Submit the requested verification materials in Play Console. For an organization with an unverified payments profile, Google lists the D-U-N-S number, an authorized representative’s official government ID and an official organization document. Fix common D-U-N-S verification problems
The name or address does not match

An address correction has not appeared in Google’s check

The number lookup fails

Ask Google support about the alternative verification route before account creation. Plan around the verification timeline
The D&B application can take up to 30 days according to Google, and an accepted address correction may take up to five business days to propagate after D&B completes processing. These are Google’s stated estimates, not guaranteed completion times. Start early, especially if you are registering close to a launch date. Check Google’s current instructions and D&B’s official application route before applying, since procedures and regional availability can change.
