Yes, Jotform documents substantial security controls, but a form is not automatically private or suitable for sensitive data. Security depends on how the form and account are configured, what information is collected, and which Jotform plan and contractual protections apply. In particular, Jotform’s optional submission-encryption feature does not encrypt uploaded files, and form owners can share responses or make them public.
What Jotform says it protects
Connections and encrypted submissions
Jotform says forms use HTTPS and specifies TLS 1.2 with SHA256/RSA for the connection. This protects data as it travels between a respondent’s browser and the service; it is different from encryption of stored data.

Form owners can also enable an optional feature that encrypts submissions using a custom password and 2048-bit RSA keys, according to Jotform. This is a vendor description of the feature, not independent verification. Jotform says notification emails for encrypted forms do not contain submission data and are not encrypted.

Jotform explicitly says, “File uploads aren’t covered by this feature.” If a form accepts identity documents, medical records, or other sensitive attachments, do not assume that enabling submission encryption protects those files. Jotform says upload access can be restricted by requiring a Jotform login.

Who can see form responses?
Jotform says access to submissions is limited by default to a login for the account that owns the form. That default can change: owners may share access with others or make data public. Review each form’s visibility, team permissions, integrations, and any sharing settings rather than assuming that the default applies to every response.
Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on the account and use unique credentials. Jotform describes 2FA as requiring a second verification step alongside the password. Account protection helps prevent unauthorized access, but it does not correct overly broad permissions on a form.

What changes with Enterprise, HIPAA-enabled, and Government services?
Enterprise and HIPAA-enabled configurations
Jotform’s Enterprise FAQ says its standard Enterprise environment has disk-level encryption at rest. Its HIPAA-enabled setup adds database-level encryption: Jotform describes AES-256 encryption for individual submissions and RSA-2048 protection for the keys. Enterprise also supports SAML 2.0 single sign-on and internal forms protected by organizational authentication. These are plan- and configuration-specific vendor statements; confirm what is included in the particular account and contract.
Jotform says it offers a SOC 2 compliance solution to Enterprise customers. That statement alone does not identify the report type, audit period, scope, or components covered. Request the current report or attestation and check that it covers the service you intend to use. For regulated information, verify the applicable contract and any required business associate agreement (BAA); a plan label by itself is not proof of compliance.

Government service
Jotform Government describes controls aligned with NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 and says it participates in GovRAMP’s Progressing Snapshot Program. The same material describes GovRAMP authorization and later FedRAMP authorization as goals. Do not treat those statements as confirmation that the service is currently GovRAMP Authorized or FedRAMP Authorized; verify current status and requirements for your agency.
Where data is stored and who may process it
Jotform’s Privacy Policy, revised August 31, 2026, says customer form data may be stored with cloud providers including AWS and Google Cloud. It says data is usually stored in the United States, with regional storage available in some cases. The policy also describes subprocessors, including certain AI providers, that help deliver platform functionality. Check the current policy, AI policy, subprocessor terms, retention and deletion terms, and any regional-storage commitments relevant to your use.

There are two privacy relationships to consider. Jotform handles data to provide its platform, while the organization that created a form decides why it collects answers and how it handles them. Jotform advises respondents to read the form creator’s privacy notice. If you are completing a form, the platform’s security controls do not tell you what the organization collecting your answers will do with them.

UpGuard’s Jotform report, last updated October 2, 2026, gives an A rating of 895/950 and flags content-security-policy settings involving unsafe-inline and unsafe-eval. UpGuard describes its assessment as external attack-surface monitoring drawing on several information feeds. It is a dated external signal, not a full audit or penetration test, and it does not establish that submission data was exposed.

The available material does not establish whether Jotform has had a confirmed breach, nor does it provide the current SOC 2 or PCI audit artifacts and their scope. A lack of confirmation in these sources is not proof that no incident occurred. Organizations with sensitive-data requirements should request current assurance documents and contractual terms directly from Jotform.
Before collecting sensitive information
- Protect the account. Enable 2FA and use a unique password for the Jotform account.
- Limit response access. Check who can view submissions, including teammates and integrations, and make sure the form is not public unless that is intentional.
- Review attachments separately. The optional form-encryption feature does not cover uploaded files. Restrict upload access, such as by requiring a login, when appropriate.
- Confirm the service and contract. Check the plan, data region, subprocessors, retention and deletion terms, and any required BAA or other contractual protections.
- Ask for current assurance evidence. Obtain the applicable audit report or attestation and verify its period, scope, and coverage of the service you will use.
- For government use, verify authorization status. A Progressing Snapshot Program description is not the same as formal GovRAMP or FedRAMP authorization.
Verdict: Is Jotform secure enough?
For ordinary forms, Jotform documents credible safeguards, and careful account and access settings make a qualified “yes” reasonable. That does not mean every form is private by default or that all kinds of information are protected in the same way. For sensitive or regulated data, decide based on the exact information collected—including attachments—the configured plan and controls, and current contractual and audit evidence.
