Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteSaving a credit card on PlayStation Network is generally a reasonable convenience if you secure your account and control who can use your console—but it is not risk-free. PlayStation offers account and checkout protections, but its published guidance does not guarantee that unauthorized purchases are impossible.
Is it safe to save my credit card on PSN?
When you add an eligible payment method while shopping, PlayStation saves the payment information to your account so it can be used for purchases. You can manage payment options in your account settings. PlayStation’s payment-management instructions explain how to add or remove a method.

The practical trade-off is convenience versus account exposure: checkout is easier with a card on file, but anyone who can use your account and complete purchases may be able to spend through it. PlayStation’s US terms say some devices may offer an account setting that requires a password or another authentication method, such as a passkey, to complete transactions. Options can vary by device and account settings. The US Terms of Service describe this protection as a way to help prevent unauthorized transactions and purchases by other users of the same device.
PlayStation’s published support and terms pages do not provide an independent platform-wide security audit, a quantified likelihood of card compromise, or a complete technical description of card-data storage. They therefore do not establish that saved card details are immune to theft.

Can someone buy games if my card is saved on PlayStation?
Someone with access to your account or an already signed-in console may be able to make purchases, depending on the device and account settings. Reduce that risk by protecting both account sign-in and checkout, and by signing out of devices other people can use.
Secure sign-in and checkout
PlayStation recommends using a passkey or a strong, unique password; it also recommends password managers. Its security guidance says checkout password protection is not compatible with accounts using passkeys, so check which protection your account supports rather than assuming both can be enabled together. See PlayStation’s account security guidance for its recommendations and settings.

Shared consoles and family accounts
Sign out of shared devices when you finish using them. On PlayStation’s US support page, child accounts use the family manager’s wallet subject to a monthly spending limit. The limit is set to zero by default when a child account is created; a family manager can change it. PlayStation’s family-account guidance covers account roles and spending limits.
How do I remove my card from my PlayStation account?
- Open PlayStation’s payment-method support instructions for your country or region.
- Follow the listed account or console steps to open Payment Management and select the saved payment method you want to remove.
- Confirm removal, then check Payment Management to make sure the method is no longer listed.
Menu labels and available payment methods can vary by region and device. Removing a card stops it from remaining as a saved payment method, but it does not sign out other devices or secure an account that someone else can access.

Can I use PlayStation gift cards instead of saving my card?
Yes. PlayStation says adult wallets can be topped up with gift cards or wallet top-up codes, as well as registered payment methods. A gift card can suit someone who prefers not to leave a bank card saved or wants to keep spending to the wallet value they load. Availability and payment options vary by country; check the current options for your region on PlayStation’s wallet-funding page.
| Consideration | Saved card | Gift card or wallet top-up |
|---|---|---|
| Checkout convenience | Payment information is available for purchases on the account. | Wallet funds must be available; top-up is a separate step when the balance runs low. |
| Bank card left on the account | Yes, until you remove it. | No, if you fund the wallet without adding a card. |
| Spending control | Purchases can draw on the saved payment method, subject to account and payment settings. | Spending can be limited to the wallet balance already added. |
| After account takeover | A person with account access may be able to use the saved payment method. | A person with account access may be able to spend the remaining wallet funds. |
| Recurring subscriptions | Payment behavior depends on the subscription and account payment settings. | Wallet funds can be used for purchases, but the cited support guidance does not establish that a wallet-only setup will cover every recurring subscription or renewal. |
A gift card is a payment alternative and spending-management choice, not a security fix: wallet funds remain available to someone who can make purchases through your account. PlayStation lists country-dependent options including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, and Cash App Pay on its US payment page; what you can use depends on your country. Check PlayStation’s accepted payment methods for the US, or visit support for your region.

What should I do about an unrecognized PlayStation charge?
- Review your PlayStation transaction history and subscription settings. A recurring subscription may explain a charge you do not recognize.
- If you believe someone used your payment details or accessed your account, contact PlayStation Support’s unauthorized-payment and compromised-account help promptly.
- If your console was stolen, use PlayStation’s support workflow to sign out of PlayStation on all devices and deactivate consoles; consider removing payment methods as well.
PlayStation’s guidance does not promise a refund or determine the outcome of a bank dispute. Those outcomes depend on the transaction, account, and applicable regional policies.
What PlayStation says about stored payment details
PlayStation’s UK terms say payment card and PayPal details are stored when used and can be used for future purchases unless deleted; they also say the card’s three-digit security number is not stored. That statement is specific to the UK terms and should not be treated as a description of storage practices in every country. Read the UK Terms of Service.
