Short answer: The reviewed evidence does not show that i-Ready makes children’s records publicly visible to strangers. Curriculum Associates says students cannot share information publicly or see one another’s profiles through the platform. But i-Ready does process student information, and contracted service providers may handle some of it for defined operational purposes. The specific data and providers involved depend on a school or district’s setup.
What “exposing data to strangers” means here
Public visibility, advertising use, and limited access by a contracted processor are different things. Curriculum Associates’ i-Ready Platform Privacy Policy, last updated July 17, 2026, says student profiles are not visible to other platform users and students cannot share information publicly. It also permits certain disclosures, including to service providers under contractual restrictions. That is not evidence that arbitrary members of the public can view a child’s records.

Curriculum Associates states that it does not use student information for advertising, marketing, profiling, or commercial purposes unrelated to educational services. These are the company’s policy statements; the reviewed materials are not an independent audit or verification of a particular account’s data flows.
What information i-Ready may process
The policy describes a K–12 platform for assessment, personalized instruction, curriculum, and reporting. The information processed can vary with the school’s choices and the features it uses.

Information provided by a school
Possible account fields include a student’s name, date of birth, gender, username and password, email address, student ID, school and district, class enrollment, and grade. Schools may also provide demographic or program information, such as race or ethnicity, eligibility for free or reduced-price lunch, disability or Section 504 status, English learner or gifted status, and participation in specialized programs. The policy says most school-provided information is at the school’s discretion and is not required to use i-Ready.
Learning activity and technical identifiers
Student-generated information may include assessment results, lesson performance, and responses to learning content. The platform also describes automatic collection of IP addresses and session identifiers for internal functions such as authentication, security monitoring, troubleshooting, research and analytics, and technical performance. Features can have different data categories; Live Class, for example, has its own configuration and information types.

The company’s student data privacy FAQ says i-Ready does not collect health or biometric data, student mailing addresses or phone numbers, student personal email addresses, or social-media or personal-profile information. This does not mean the service never processes email: the policy lists an email address as a possible school-provided account field.
Who controls the data, and when can others process it?
Curriculum Associates says it acts as a school official with an educational interest under FERPA and remains under the school customer’s direct control for use and maintenance of student data and education records. The company describes itself as a service provider or operator under COPPA. Its policy says the school owns student data and authorizes the vendor to process it for educational purposes under the school agreement. A school or district may also have its own privacy policies governing its handling and sharing of information associated with i-Ready.

The policy says education records are not shared with third parties unless the contract permits it and the recipient is bound by the same confidentiality obligations. The stated disclosure categories include service providers, legal and compliance requirements, business transactions, and disclosures directed or authorized by the school. Those limited categories are distinct from public sharing or use for unrelated advertising.
Service providers are not necessarily the same for every school
Curriculum Associates’ service-provider list names Amazon Web Services for hosting and infrastructure and Box for cloud storage, content management, and rostering, among other providers. The list says applicability depends on the school customer’s use, not every provider serves every school, and providers receive only the minimum information needed for their assigned service. Some providers apply only if a school enables Live Class. The list is not a child-specific data-flow report, so it cannot establish which providers process information for a particular student.

In a separate explanation, Curriculum Associates says its student dashboard sends internally generated UUIDs to Google Analytics that are not meaningful outside its systems, and that Google may process analytics data only to provide the service, not for its own advertising or profile building. This is the vendor’s account of its configuration and contractual limits, not an independent measurement of what is transmitted.

Curriculum Associates says it uses administrative, technical, and physical safeguards and hosts i-Ready in U.S. Tier 1 data centers. Its FAQ also says data is protected in transit and at rest, staff access is limited to trained and authorized personnel, and systems are regularly monitored, updated, and tested. These are company-described controls, not independent proof that every control is effective in every circumstance.

The reviewed policy and FAQ do not provide an independent audit report or establish that no security incident has ever occurred. If you need account-specific security or incident information, ask the district what it knows and what its agreement with the vendor provides.
What parents and eligible students can do
The policy says parents and eligible students may request a description of the categories of personal information collected, deletion, or cessation of collection. It directs them to the student’s school because Curriculum Associates acts under the school’s direct control and generally does not process a direct parental deletion request without school direction. Deleting information integral to the service may affect the student’s access.
Contact the school or district and ask:
- Which i-Ready components and features does the school use, including whether Live Class is enabled?
- Which fields does the district provide for my child, and which are optional in its configuration?
- Which service providers apply to the district’s setup, and what information categories do they process?
- Which district policy and contract govern access, correction, deletion, retention, and school-directed sharing?
- What process should I use to request a copy of my child’s i-Ready data or ask for deletion?
