As of October 9, 2026, a third-party status monitor listed Google Gemini as working normally, despite 38 user reports in the previous 24 hours. Users had reported failed or slow responses, “Something went wrong” messages, and errors 1155 and 1099 on October 8. Those reports do not amount to an official Google outage confirmation: contemporaneous coverage said Google had not acknowledged the event on its status page at the time.
If Gemini is not working for you, check Google’s official dashboard and recent user reports before changing your device or account. The monitor snapshot can go stale, and neither status source is guaranteed to capture every limited or short-lived problem.

Is Gemini down right now?
The latest dated status snapshot available here is from October 9, 2026: IsDown listed Gemini as working normally while showing 38 user reports over the preceding 24 hours. That is a third-party snapshot, not Google’s confirmation that service was healthy everywhere. Check the Google Workspace Status Dashboard for official incident notices, then compare it with IsDown’s Gemini status page for user-submitted reports.

On October 8, Tom’s Guide reported that Downdetector submissions had risen to more than 5,000 at one update and that reports appeared to subside after just over an hour. Its report said Google had not acknowledged the event on its status page at the time. These are contemporaneous observations, not an official explanation or confirmation of the cause.

What do errors 1155 and 1099 mean?
Users associated error 1155—and, in some reports, error 1099—with Gemini responses that failed or did not arrive. The available October reporting does not establish an official Google explanation for error 1155, or show that all reports shared one cause. Treat the codes as clues that a request failed, not as a diagnosis of your account, device, or Google’s backend.
Error 1099 also appeared in a separate, confirmed Google incident on June 10, 2026, alongside error 1076 and “Something went wrong” messages. Google documented a provider-side problem for that incident, but that history does not establish the cause of the October 8 reports.

What to do when Gemini says “Something went wrong”
- Check for an official notice. Open the Google Workspace Status Dashboard and look for a Gemini incident or update. Google’s dashboard is the source for official incident information; its history can also show previously documented incidents.
- Compare recent user reports. Check IsDown or the contemporaneous report volume on a crowdsourced monitor. A rise in reports can indicate a wider problem, but it does not prove Google has confirmed one.
- If the issue appears widespread, wait and retry. Avoid destructive account or device changes while reports point to a service-side interruption. Retrying later is cautious guidance, not a Google-published fix.
- If reports are quiet and the problem continues, narrow it down. Try a fresh request and check whether the issue occurs on another Gemini surface you already use. This can help distinguish a broader service issue from a problem limited to one session or surface; it does not identify the underlying cause by itself.
Do not assume that clearing data, switching phones, buying networking equipment, or replacing a device will resolve a Google-side outage. No such fix is established for the October reports.
What Google’s confirmed June incident can—and cannot—tell you
Google’s official June 10, 2026 incident report is a useful example of how a real provider-side failure can affect multiple Gemini surfaces. Google said the issue affected web, iOS and Android apps, and Chrome integration, as well as consumer and Workspace accounts. It reported a 50% error rate when affected users tried to send prompts.
The report attributes that June incident to extreme read contention in a foundational database service used to manage tool deployment metadata. Google described concentrated traffic on a small number of database instances, an index design issue, and a one-minute in-memory cache lifetime that caused frequent database refreshes. Its mitigations included throttling affected instances, redistributing index values, increasing the cache lifetime to 20 minutes, and shortening query deadlines. Those details explain the June incident only; they should not be applied to the October 8 reports.
Google’s incident summary says elevated errors lasted approximately 6 hours and 55 minutes and that full restoration was confirmed after 14 hours and 49 minutes. The same report’s preliminary timeline lists a 7-hour-5-minute impact period. These are different figures from different parts of the report, so they should not be collapsed into a single outage duration. Google’s stated resolution was: “The issue with Gemini has been resolved for all the affected users as of Wednesday, 2026-06-10 10:30 US/Pacific.”

How to read Gemini status reports
| Source | What it tells you | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Google Workspace Status Dashboard | Google’s official notices and documented incident history. | By itself, absence of a notice does not prove no user experienced a problem. |
| IsDown | A third-party status snapshot and user-submitted report volume; its October 9 snapshot listed Gemini as working normally with 38 reports in the previous 24 hours. | It is not an official Google outage declaration, and its snapshot may become stale. |
| Downdetector reports covered by Tom’s Guide | Contemporaneous reporting on user-report volume, including a rise above 5,000 at one update on October 8 and a subsequent decline. | User reports do not confirm the cause, exact scope, or official status of an incident. |
These sources may differ in update timing and coverage. The cited October reporting does not establish that every monitor covers every Gemini product surface, nor does it provide a consumer-versus-Workspace breakdown for the October reports.
