First check whether Google reports a Gemini service incident; then identify which Gemini surface is failing. The Gemini website and Gemini in Chrome have different eligibility rules, so a missing Chrome feature does not necessarily mean gemini.google.com is down. Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard showed no incidents at 6:21 AM UTC on October 9, 2026, but that was only a snapshot. Check the live dashboard when the problem occurs before changing device settings.
1. Check whether Gemini is having a service incident
Open Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard and look for Gemini. Google uses the dashboard to report current and past status, including recent disruptions. At 6:21 AM UTC on October 9, 2026, it showed “No incidents”; status can change, and that snapshot does not establish whether every consumer-facing problem will appear there.

If Google lists an incident, note its affected service and updates, then wait for the reported resolution rather than repeatedly changing local settings. A recent example illustrates why: Google recorded intermittent elevated error rates for Gemini 3.1 Pro on the Gemini web and app surfaces from 6:00 to 13:22 PDT on September 11, 2026. Google’s preliminary analysis connected the event to a recent rollout and said a code change mitigated it. See Google’s incident history.

2. If gemini.google.com is failing, check browser and account access
Use a supported browser
Google lists Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera, and Edgium as supported browsers for gemini.google.com. If you are using another browser, retry in one of these before changing other settings. Browser support for the website is separate from eligibility for Gemini in Chrome.

Confirm the account can use Gemini
Check that you are signed into the intended Google Account, especially if you have multiple personal or organization accounts. Google says access can depend on account type, age, location, and whether a school or work administrator has enabled Gemini. Family Link-managed accounts cannot access the Gemini web app. Some features can work while signed out, but additional features and saved Gemini Apps activity require a Google Account.
If sign-in shows “Something went wrong,” Google explains: “If you get a ‘Something went wrong’ message while trying to access or sign in to the Gemini web app, your account can’t access the app at the moment.” The cause may involve location, age, or account type; the message may also suggest trying again later. Check Google’s current eligibility guidance at What you need to sign in to Gemini Apps.

3. If Gemini in Chrome is missing or failing, check its separate requirements
Gemini in Chrome is a distinct feature, not another name for the Gemini website. Google says it is rolling out gradually, so an otherwise eligible person may not have it yet. Its cited requirements include:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Being in a supported region and meeting the age requirement.
- Using a Chromebook Plus, Mac, or Windows computer with the latest Chrome.
- Being signed in to a supported Chrome profile and using a supported language.
- Having administrator enablement if a work or school account requires it.
Incognito sessions and Chrome profiles that are not signed in are not supported. Review Google’s current Gemini in Chrome availability and troubleshooting guidance, since requirements and rollout availability may change.

- Update Chrome to the latest version.
- Reset Chrome flags, then restart Chrome.
- Reload the Gemini side panel or floating chat.
- Close virtualized environments and try again.
- If you use a managed work or school device or account, ask your administrator whether Gemini in Chrome is disabled.
4. Send feedback if the problem persists
If you are signed in and the issue continues after the relevant checks, open gemini.google.com and select Settings & help > Send feedback. Describe what happened and optionally attach a screenshot. Before submitting, note Google’s privacy warning: feedback may include the associated conversation, including prompts and Gemini responses, as well as files, images, or personal content obtained through Connected Apps that were included in that conversation.
