What kind of game are you choosing?
E-Day is a third-person cover shooter: Xbox describes Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago fighting as the Locust Horde first emerges. Wolverine is an action-adventure focused on Logan, with visceral melee combat, stealth and heightened senses. The choice is between squad-based shooting and close-quarters action, not two versions of the same formula.

Why E-Day may be the better pick
You want to play with other people
E-Day’s campaign supports solo play, two-player split-screen on console, and online play for up to four. Xbox also lists Horde Siege PvE and Versus PvP, giving players options beyond the story campaign. Those documented modes make E-Day the clearer choice if co-op or multiplayer is a priority. Sony’s announcement focuses on Wolverine’s story and combat and does not provide enough detail for a complete mode-by-mode comparison.

You prefer tactical shooting to melee combat
E-Day is built around cover shooting and fighting alongside a partner or squad. That will suit players who enjoy taking positions, coordinating fire and working through encounters with teammates. Wolverine’s focus is instead on close-range attacks, stealth and Logan’s heightened senses; choose it if that action-adventure style sounds more appealing.

You want the Marcus-and-Dom origin story
E-Day goes back to the first Locust attack, fourteen years before the original Gears of War. Its central draw is seeing young Marcus and Dom at the beginning of a conflict that defines the series. Wolverine offers a different kind of character story: an original tale in which Logan searches for answers about his past, with settings inspired by the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo and Madripoor.
Why Wolverine may be the better pick
You want a Logan-led action adventure
If what you want is a game centered on Wolverine’s melee combat, stealth and heightened senses, Sony’s description points directly to that experience. Its story follows Logan as he investigates his past. That makes Wolverine the more fitting choice for players drawn to the character and to close-range action rather than cover-based shooting.

You already play on PS5
Sony announced Wolverine as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. If PS5 is your platform and you want this kind of action-adventure, it is the straightforward option between these two; E-Day’s listed platforms are Xbox and PC.
Platforms, release timing and access
As of October 3, 2026, Sony says Marvel’s Wolverine released worldwide on September 15, exclusively for PS5. The Coalition’s October 1 launch article says E-Day early access began worldwide at 8:00 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC) that day for eligible players, with its worldwide launch scheduled for October 6 at the same time. The games are therefore at different points in their release window on this date.

Xbox lists E-Day at launch in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Its US listing gives the Standard Edition at $69.99, the Premium Edition at $99.99, and a $30 Premium upgrade for Standard owners. These are listing prices and subscription details for the US, and can change; check the current listing for your region before buying.
Xbox’s listing also names Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Steam, alongside cloud play through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW. Xbox describes Play Anywhere/shared progression. Wolverine’s PS5 exclusivity means a player without that console cannot choose it on the basis of Sony’s cited release announcement.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose E-Day if you have Xbox or a suitable PC, prefer cover shooting, want its listed campaign co-op or multiplayer modes, or are invested in Marcus and Dom’s story.
- Choose Wolverine if you have a PS5, prefer melee combat and stealth, and want an original story focused on Logan.
- Let your platform decide if you already own only one of the systems these releases support. A preference for a game you can actually play is more useful than an abstract ranking.
My verdict is that E-Day is “still better” for the audience this headline speaks to: players who value co-op, a cover-shooter campaign and Gears’ central duo. That is a preference based on the features Xbox lists, not a claim that E-Day is objectively better made or more enjoyable for everyone. Wolverine looks like the better match for PS5 players who want a focused Logan action-adventure.
