Maybe—if what puts you off roguelikes is feeling helpless when luck turns against you. Dicevaders gives you ways to steer its dice rolls and build a tactical alien force, but it remains a roguelike deckbuilder built around repeated runs and changing combinations. If you dislike that structure itself, the dice are unlikely to change your mind.
What you do in Dicevaders
Dicevaders is a single-player strategy game developed by Pengonauts and published by Playstack. It launched on September 29, 2026. Steam describes it as a dice-based roguelike deckbuilder in the StarVaders universe. Its turn-based grid combat revolves around drafting units, placing them to create synergies, and manipulating a row of dice. Steam’s game listing and Playstack’s game page describe those mechanics.

The key distinction is that the game offers tools to influence randomness, not remove it. Playstack says Chrono can reroll dice or restock the shop, while “budge” lets you shift a dice throw toward a desired combination. You still have to work with rolls and build choices; the appeal is making decisions around them.
Which kind of roguelike dislike matters?
| If you dislike… | What Dicevaders offers | How that affects the fit |
|---|---|---|
| Bad luck leaving you without meaningful choices | Rerolls, dice adjustment, unit drafting and board placement | It may suit you: these mechanics are designed to give you ways to steer a run. |
| Any uncertainty or dice-driven outcomes | Dice remain central to the game | Probably a poor fit; the control tools do not make it a deterministic strategy game. |
| Repeating runs and changing builds | Its official description identifies it as a roguelike deckbuilder | Probably a poor fit if run-based progression is the objection, not just luck. |
| Optimizing a board and finding combinations | Unit placement and synergies are core parts of the described loop | That tactical puzzle may be the strongest reason to give it a chance. |
This is a judgment based on the published mechanics, not a guarantee that every genre skeptic will enjoy the game. The official descriptions do not quantify how much luck remains in a typical run.

How much variety does it advertise?
Playstack’s launch page lists 10 commanders, 60+ units, 120 artifacts and 30+ constellations. Pengonauts’ Steam Community launch announcement also lists six difficulties, 13 additional challenge modes, a true ending and daily challenges. Those are publisher and developer launch claims: they indicate a broad menu of options, but do not independently establish the quality or depth of the experience.

If you are curious but unsure about the run structure, check the Steam listing for a demo and confirm it is currently available in your region before relying on it; a demo listing does not guarantee present access. Steam and Nintendo Switch are listed as platforms by the publisher, and the Steam launch announcement also mentions Nintendo Switch 2. Availability can vary by region and storefront.

Playstack announced launch prices of £12.99, $14.99 and €14.99, plus a 10% discount for the first two weeks after launch on September 29, 2026. That introductory offer has passed; check the live store for the current price rather than assuming the launch price or discount still applies.
As a separate, time-sensitive signal, Steam showed 269 reviews with 94% positive on October 4, 2026. Store ratings change, and that snapshot cannot tell you whether players who dislike roguelikes will enjoy Dicevaders.
