Buy Crimson Desert now if its large world, exploration and layered systems appeal on their own; wait if the upcoming sea-focused expansion is the main reason you’re interested. The base game launched on March 19, 2026, and the first DLC, Charting the Unknown, is now scheduled for October 29. Its contents are publisher-described, so waiting also lets you judge the expansion after players can experience it.
When does the DLC arrive?
Pearl Abyss has scheduled Charting the Unknown for October 29, 2026 at 22:00 UTC—October 29 at 15:00 PT and 18:00 ET in North America, and October 30 at 07:00 KST/JST in Asia. The date was moved back by two weeks in an official update on September 30. The team said it needed more development time for “a more polished and stable gameplay experience.” The earlier October 15/16 dates are superseded by this update. Pearl Abyss’s release-date update

What does Charting the Unknown add?
Pearl Abyss describes the expansion as a sea-focused addition to the game, with ship-based exploration, new islands, underwater treasures and ruins, new enemies and challenges, expanded housing, facility management, and new stories for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane. These are announced features, not an independent assessment of how well the expansion plays. The DLC will not be available on the Mac App Store at launch; Pearl Abyss says it may announce Mac availability later. Official DLC announcement

Does the base game sound right for you?
The main decision is whether you want to play the released game as it stands, rather than buy it mainly as a ticket to the expansion. PC Gamer’s March 18, 2026 review scored it 80 and described a game whose scale can both frustrate and exhilarate. Reviewer Mollie Taylor praised the abundance of discoveries and exploration, while pointing to confusing systems and mediocre questing. That is one critic’s review, not a consensus score or an assessment of the game’s current post-launch state. PC Gamer review
- Buy now: You want a substantial open world to explore and are comfortable learning a dense mix of combat, traversal, progression and side activities. The base game is available now; the expansion is additional content.
- Wait: The new sea travel, islands, underwater sites, housing, management or character stories are what make the game attractive to you. Waiting also gives you a chance to see how the delayed expansion performs after launch.
- Check your platform first: The base game is listed for several platforms, but the Mac App Store is excluded from the DLC launch. Confirm the expansion’s availability for your platform before buying the base game specifically for it.
- Check your local price and edition: Prices differ by territory, edition, retailer and discount; there is no single current worldwide price established here.
Which edition should you consider?
Pearl Abyss documented physical Standard, Deluxe and Collector’s editions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The Standard Edition includes the full game; the Deluxe and Collector’s editions add cosmetic or collector items. The company’s 2025 announcement listed US launch prices, but those are historical figures—not current quotes or universal prices.
