1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf a HomeKit or Matter accessory will not connect—or appears as “No Response” in Apple Home—start by checking how many devices are affected. A single accessory usually points to its power, setup, or connection requirements; failures across multiple brands make the shared Wi-Fi network, controlling device, hub, or bridge more important to check. Work through the checks below before removing or resetting anything.
First, identify what is failing
Note whether the problem happens while adding an accessory or after it has already been set up. Also check whether it affects one device, several devices from one manufacturer, or accessories from multiple manufacturers. These distinctions matter: setup failures call for compatibility and pairing checks, while a “No Response” status on an existing accessory calls for connection and restart checks.

- One accessory: Check that it has power, meets Apple Home setup requirements, and is within range of the network or bridge it uses.
- One manufacturer’s accessories: Check the manufacturer’s app, firmware, bridge, and model-specific guidance.
- Several manufacturers at once: Check the shared Wi-Fi network, controlling device, home hub, router, and any VPN or third-party security software.
For a multi-brand outage, Apple recommends connecting the iPhone, iPad, or Mac used to control the home to the same Wi-Fi network as the accessories. See Apple’s troubleshooting steps for HomeKit or Matter accessories that aren’t responding.

Verify compatibility, power, and setup requirements
Confirm that the exact accessory model supports Apple Home, HomeKit, or Matter. Check that it is powered on, then follow its manual and manufacturer app instructions. Some devices require a manufacturer account, a bridge, or a firmware update as part of setup; requirements vary by model. Turn on Bluetooth on the iPhone or iPad you are using to add the accessory, and bring the accessory closer to the router during setup if practical.

Check Wi-Fi band requirements only when relevant
If Apple Home says the “network is incompatible,” check the accessory’s Wi-Fi specifications. Some accessories support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi but not 5 GHz. Use a network configuration the accessory supports; do not change Wi-Fi bands indiscriminately, because requirements differ by device.

- Remote Control: To enable HomeKit remote control, you need a HomePod, an Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, or an iPad. Set any of these Apple devices in your house as a HomeKit bridge and connect it to your home 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Keep in mind that once your HomeKit bridge is set up, it has to be kept online. If it is powered off or disconnected from the Wi-Fi, it will fail to respond when you intend to control the device remotely.
- Voice Control: You can control your devices hands free, just give voice commands to turn on/off the connected devices. Compatible with Apple HomeKit, Apple Watch, Siri, Carplay, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant.
- Compact Size: Smart plug occupies only one socket, the device allows you to stack two mini smart plugs in the same outlet, which is convenient and practical.

- Quality: The meross Smart outlet is made of PC flame retardant material, and has been approved for safety and quality assurance. Certified by ETL and FCC, it supports home appliance up to 15A.
Check whether the accessory uses Thread
Thread is relevant only to accessories that use Thread. A Thread-based Matter accessory needs a Thread-enabled home hub or a compatible third-party Thread border router. Apple lists Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini as examples of Thread-enabled devices. Apple’s Matter accessory guidance and Thread support information explain the relevant requirements.

If an accessory already added to Home shows “No Response”
Start with the accessory and its maker’s app
Check that the accessory is powered and connected as its manufacturer requires. For a battery-powered device, remove and reinsert the batteries if the manufacturer permits it. Check the manufacturer’s app for firmware updates or device-specific status, and consult the maker if its bridge or cloud service is involved.
Restart in a low-risk order
- Restart the unresponsive accessory. For battery-powered models, remove and reinsert the batteries if appropriate for that device.
- Check for accessory firmware updates in the manufacturer’s app.
- Restart any third-party bridge the accessory uses, then restart the active Apple home hub.
- If several manufacturers’ accessories still do not respond, restart the modem or router, hubs and bridges, accessories, and the iPhone, iPad, or Mac used to control the home.
Apple provides separate steps for an individual accessory and for problems affecting products from multiple manufacturers in its Home app accessory troubleshooting guide.

If Apple Home reports a home hub error
For “Software Update Required”
In the Home app, open Home Settings and select Home Hubs & Bridges to identify the active hub and check its status. Update the hub if Apple Home reports that an update is required. Apple states that “iPad is not supported as a home hub on the latest version of Apple Home.” Read Apple’s guidance for “Software Update Required” and “Home Hub Required” alerts.
For “Home Hub Required”
Check that the home has an available, supported hub and restart the active hub. Make sure the device controlling the home uses the Apple Account associated with that home, and check Wi-Fi connectivity and possible interference. If a VPN or third-party security app is in use, investigate whether it is disrupting communication with the home network.

Check router restrictions if manufacturer services fail
If the accessory works in Apple Home but the manufacturer’s app or firmware-update service cannot reach it, review your HomeKit router’s access setting. Apple warns that Restrict to Home can prevent an accessory from reaching third-party services, including services needed for firmware updates. Apple’s HomeKit-secured router guidance describes the available options. Consider Automatic if the manufacturer’s service requires more access; that option allows connections recommended by the accessory manufacturer.
Remove and re-add only after simpler checks
If the accessory remains unresponsive after the relevant power, network, firmware, and restart checks, remove it from Apple Home and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to reset it before adding it again. Reset procedures are model-specific, so do not rely on a generic button press or hold time. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance and setup instructions explain when to remove an accessory; the manufacturer should provide the exact reset procedure.
What to include when asking for help
If the problem persists, note the accessory’s exact model, whether you are adding it or seeing “No Response,” how many brands are affected, its connection type (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, or a bridge), and the precise alert shown in Apple Home. Share those details with the accessory manufacturer or Apple Support so they can point you to model- and software-specific steps.
