As of 2:58 a.m. UTC on October 3, 2026, OpenAI’s status page reported that it was “fully operational” and that OpenAI was “not aware of any issues affecting our systems.” The latest surfaced ChatGPT incident in the incident history—a problem with data analysis and file creation—was marked resolved on October 2. That is OpenAI’s status at the time checked, not a guarantee that ChatGPT is working for every person or feature right now.
What happened most recently?
OpenAI’s incident report for “Issues with data analysis and file creation in ChatGPT” says some users encountered errors running code, analyzing data, or creating files. OpenAI recorded the incident as resolved at 4:51 p.m. on October 2, 2026, and said the impacted services had fully recovered.

That report establishes that OpenAI marked the incident resolved; it does not establish that every user can access every ChatGPT feature successfully. The status snapshot above was checked at 2:58 a.m. UTC on October 3, 2026. Because live status can change, check OpenAI’s status page again for the latest report.
Why might ChatGPT fail when the status page is green?
OpenAI’s overall status is an aggregate view, not a guarantee of identical availability for every user. OpenAI notes that availability metrics are aggregated across tiers, models, and error types, and that an individual customer’s availability can vary with subscription tier and the model or API features they use. Its incident history also includes issues limited to particular functions, plans, and regions.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
So a working conversation does not rule out a problem with file uploads, image generation, login, or another feature. Likewise, one user’s failure does not by itself show that ChatGPT is down for everyone. A green headline and a specific failure can coexist if the problem is limited in scope or has not yet appeared in the aggregate status.
What to check if ChatGPT is not working
- Check the live status: Open OpenAI Status and note whether it reports an active issue or normal operations.
- Check the incident history: Review OpenAI Status History for a recent incident affecting the feature that is failing, and whether OpenAI has marked it resolved.
- Pin down the symptom: Identify whether the issue is with signing in, ordinary conversations, data analysis, file creation, image generation, or another function. Note whether it occurs with one model or plan, or across more than one.
- Check again later: A status report reflects a point in time. If your problem continues after an incident is marked resolved, verify the live page again rather than assuming the incident is still active—or that the cause is your device or network.
How to interpret OpenAI’s status report
- Active incident matching your symptom: OpenAI is reporting a relevant service issue. Follow the incident updates and check whether it is marked resolved.
- Normal operations, but one feature fails: The status page does not rule out a scoped issue. Compare the failing feature, model or plan, and any incident-history entries.
- Incident marked resolved, but your issue remains: OpenAI’s report means the affected services were said to have recovered; it does not promise that every individual session is problem-free.
OpenAI’s status information does not provide a numerical uptime or incident-rate figure here, so a green status should not be read as a quantified guarantee.
