It is the route for people who want that control and are comfortable supplying a working internet connection—or access to a local Fedora repository mirror. If you would rather boot into a ready-to-use desktop, Fedora Workstation or a Fedora Spin is the simpler starting point.
What Fedora Everything is—and what it is not
The Fedora Project describes Everything as its online installer: unlike the offline installer used by standard Fedora releases, it lets you choose software packages during installation. The installer does not include all Fedora software, so package selection depends on a working internet connection or a local mirror of Fedora’s repository. See the Fedora Everything download page for current images and requirements.

That makes Everything a choice about when you select software. It is not, by itself, a guarantee of a faster, more secure, smaller, or more stable system. Those outcomes depend on what you install and how you maintain and configure it; the official pages cited here do not establish performance rankings.
Choose the route that fits how much setup you want
| Route | Starting environment | When software is selected | Connectivity | Setup tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fedora Everything | Package selection through the online installer; it is not a preconfigured named desktop. | During installation. | Working internet or a local Fedora repository mirror is required. | More control at install time, with more decisions to make. |
| Fedora Minimal | A small base installation without a desktop environment. | Selected packages are added after installation. | Not stated on the cited Fedora download page. | A minimal starting point, with desktop and other setup left to you. |
| Fedora Workstation | Preconfigured Fedora desktop using GNOME. | Most initial desktop choices are already made. | Not stated on the cited Workstation page. | Less installation-time selection; a desktop is ready to use. |
| Fedora Spin | Preconfigured Fedora variant with a particular desktop or window manager. | The environment is selected by choosing the Spin. | Not stated on the cited Spins page. | Choose a prepared alternative rather than assembling the desktop during installation. |
The comparison is about installation choices, not a claim that one route is objectively better. Fedora describes Minimal separately from Everything: Minimal gives you a small base without a desktop and expects you to add selected packages afterward; Everything exposes package choice during installation.

When Everything is the right fit
- You want to make initial package choices during setup rather than accept a prepared desktop as your starting point.
- You have reliable internet during installation, or can use a local Fedora repository mirror.
- You are comfortable making installation choices without assuming that every package group or checkbox will match a particular online walkthrough.
The exact current package-group names, default selections, and installer-screen sequence are not established by the Fedora download page. Treat screenshots or instructions for another release as potentially outdated, and follow the options shown by the image you download.
When Workstation or a Spin is more straightforward
If your priority is a desktop that is already configured, select Fedora Workstation for GNOME or browse Fedora’s current Spins list for another prepared environment. The official list has included options such as Xfce, Cinnamon, MATE+Compiz, i3, LXQt, LXDE, SOAS, Sway, Budgie, Miracle, KDE Plasma Mobile, and COSMIC; the available menu and release labels can change, so check the live page before downloading.

A prepared desktop reduces the number of choices you must make during installation. It does not establish that a desktop is faster or uses less memory than another. Choose by the environment you want to use, not by unsupported performance assumptions.
Check the current image and verify your download
Release versions, architectures, and image availability change. At the time checked, Fedora’s Miscellaneous Downloads page labeled Fedora 44 as the latest release and listed Everything 44 network-install images for x86_64, aarch64, ppc64le, and s390x. Confirm the current release and the image for your computer on that page rather than treating those labels as permanent.

- Live Boot: Simply plug the USB drive into your computer, select the USB drive as your boot device, and experience Linux Mint without installation. This allows you to test the OS and its features before making any changes to your system.
- Install Option: Once you've tested and decided to keep Linux Mint, you can easily install it on your computer directly from the USB drive.
- Pre-installed software like LibreOffice for office tasks, a capable web browser (Firefox), email client (Thunderbird), and multimedia tools. This minimizes the need for additional downloads, saving you time and effort.
- Resource Efficiency: Designed to run efficiently on a variety of hardware configurations. It demands fewer system resources compared to some other operating systems, making it an excellent choice for older computers or devices with limited hardware specifications.
- Compatible with PC/Laptop/Desktop brands - Dell, HP, Sony, Lenovo, Samsung, Acer, Toshiba & more. Minimum system requirements 4 GB RAM Dual-Core Processor (2 GHz) 20 GB of free disk space
Fedora’s download instructions recommend checking the checksum file with Fedora OpenPGP certificates. Fedora says a valid signature and matching SHA256 checksum indicate a valid download. Use the instructions on the current download page to carry out that verification; a download listing alone does not verify an individual file.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to have ready
- A computer compatible with one of the architectures listed for the current image.
- A working internet connection during installation, or access to a local Fedora repository mirror.
- A USB flash drive if you plan to create bootable installation media. Fedora’s Fedora 38 boot-media documentation covers preparing media; because it is release-specific documentation, consult current Fedora guidance for current procedures.
- Time to make package choices during setup and to add or configure anything you did not select.
Another route: customize after installation
You do not have to settle every software choice in the installer. Fedora’s Fedora 38 documentation describes customization after installation as well as Kickstart-based customization. It says Kickstart requires netinstall media or a direct installation boot method such as PXE, not a live image. These are release-specific notes, not current procedural instructions; consult current Fedora documentation before building a Kickstart workflow.

For an individual installation, Fedora Minimal is the distinct option described as a small base without a desktop, which you can expand afterward. For automated or repeatable deployments, verify the current Kickstart requirements rather than assuming an older guide applies unchanged.
