The company declared a quarterly dividend of $0.65 per share on September 2, 2026. Four payments at that rate would total $2.60 per share over a year only if the rate remains unchanged; the board can reduce or discontinue future dividends. Its semiconductor and infrastructure-software businesses generate substantial cash, but they also expose shareholders to technology-sector volatility, customer and supplier dependence, competition, debt, and valuation risk.
What Broadcom’s latest dividend means
Broadcom announced a quarterly cash dividend of $0.65 per share on September 2, 2026, payable September 30 to shareholders of record September 21. Four quarterly payments at that rate would equal $2.60 per share over a year, but that is an arithmetic illustration, not a promise of future payments. The board must approve dividends, and the company says future payments are not assured.

The dividend amount per share is not the same as dividend yield. Yield depends on the share price at the time it is calculated, so it can rise or fall even if the quarterly payment does not change. The official company figures cited here do not establish a live share price or current yield; check a dated market quote before comparing Broadcom’s yield with alternatives.

Broadcom reported $13.7 billion in free cash flow on $29.6 billion of revenue for Q3 FY2026, with free cash flow equal to 46% of revenue. It also reported paying $3.1 billion in dividends during that quarter. For FY2025, the company reported $26.9 billion in free cash flow and $11.1 billion returned through cash dividends. These figures show substantial reported cash generation and distributions, but they are past-period company results, not forecasts or an independent dividend-safety assessment.

Free cash flow is not automatically cash reserved for dividends. Broadcom cautions that its measure omits components of the cash-flow statement and may not be comparable with similarly named measures used by other companies. The company also needs cash for operations, investment, debt obligations, and other corporate purposes.
How Broadcom’s businesses affect an income portfolio
Broadcom combines semiconductor solutions with infrastructure software, including VMware-derived offerings. In FY2025, it reported $36.9 billion in semiconductor revenue, including $20.2 billion in AI semiconductor revenue, and $27.0 billion in infrastructure-software revenue, out of $63.9 billion total revenue. In Q3 FY2026, semiconductors made up 70% of revenue and infrastructure software 30%.

AI-related chip demand is a significant growth driver, but fast growth in a period should not be treated as a durable forecast. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said on September 2, 2026, that Q3 AI semiconductor revenue was $16.7 billion, up 221% year over year and 54% quarter over quarter, and described demand for custom AI accelerators and networking as very strong. Those are management’s reported results and characterization, not an independent prediction.

The software business adds a different revenue stream from semiconductors, while still carrying execution and competition risks of its own. A mix of two businesses does not remove company-specific or technology-sector risk.

Risks dividend investors should weigh
- Dividend discretion: Broadcom’s Form 10-Q says the board may reduce or discontinue the dividend at any time, and that there can be no assurance the company will continue declaring cash dividends. Broadcom is a holding company and relies on funds from subsidiaries to pay them.
- Semiconductor cyclicality and demand timing: Industry conditions can change, including as technology and AI demand evolve. Customer demand may fluctuate, and losing significant customers could affect results.
- Customer and supplier dependence: Broadcom relies on contract manufacturers and a limited number of suppliers. Manufacturing capacity, supplier availability, or customer concentration can affect its ability to deliver products and maintain margins.
- Software competition and adoption: Infrastructure-software results depend in part on customers adopting its offerings and on Broadcom remaining competitive.
- Acquisition integration: Acquisitions can create integration challenges and affect operations or financial results.
- Debt and cash demands: Broadcom identifies significant indebtedness and the need to generate enough cash flow to service and repay debt. Those obligations compete with dividends for financial resources.
- Share-price and valuation risk: A dividend can continue while the stock price falls. Paying too high a valuation can weaken total returns even when the company pays the declared dividend.
How to decide whether Broadcom fits your portfolio
Broadcom is more likely to fit an investor who can tolerate technology-sector volatility, is seeking potential dividend growth rather than relying solely on a high current yield, and accepts the possibility that payments or growth could slow or stop. It may be a poor fit for someone who needs predictable income, cannot tolerate a substantial decline in share price, or already has concentrated exposure to technology and AI-related companies.
