Bing Webmaster Tools can show how your verified site performs in Bing, but it is not a universal keyword rank tracker. Its Search Performance report puts clicks and impressions alongside metrics such as click-through rate and average position. Use it for first-party Bing visibility and site diagnostics; consider a dedicated rank-tracking service when you need requirements such as other search engines, controlled locations or devices, or recurring monitoring across many keywords. Check each provider’s current documentation before choosing: the available evidence does not establish a vendor-by-vendor feature comparison.
What Bing Webmaster Tools tracks—and what it does not
Bing describes Search Performance as a way to monitor traffic to your site from Bing search. The report offers page and keyword views, with clicks and impressions; Bing materials also discuss click-through rate (CTR) and average position. See Bing Webmaster Tools Help and Bing’s August 2024 comparison of Bing Webmaster Tools and Google Search Console.

Those measures describe search performance, not a fixed position guaranteed for every user, location, device, or search context. Average position is an aggregate report metric; it should not be treated as a manually observed rank for every searcher. Clicks and impressions add useful context: they help distinguish visibility from visits, while CTR relates the two.
Bing Webmaster Tools also includes site-owner tools such as URL inspection, Site Explorer, sitemaps, IndexNow, URL submission, backlinks, keyword research, SEO reports, and Site Scan, according to its help page. These support diagnosing and managing a site’s presence in Bing; they do not make its Search Performance report a cross-engine rank dashboard.
How much history is available, and how fresh is the data?
Bing announced on October 16, 2024 that Search Performance history had been extended to 16 months. In a March 18, 2025 announcement, it described comparing periods for clicks, impressions, CTR, keywords, and pages. These are dated product announcements, so confirm the retention window and comparison options in your current account; service features can change. See Bing’s 16-month history announcement and March 2025 comparison announcement.
The help page says reports are generated after 48 hours of collecting and processing the necessary data. That is a stated reporting delay, not a guarantee that every metric will appear exactly 48 hours after a search. Verify the operational detail in current help if timing matters.
When Bing Webmaster Tools is enough
For a site owner whose main question is how pages and search queries are performing in Bing, start with Search Performance. Its first-party clicks, impressions, CTR, and average-position reporting can help you inspect visibility and traffic without treating every query as a single rank number. The period comparisons Bing described can help you examine changes over time, subject to current account availability.
Bing’s own comparison with Google Search Console describes both services in terms of search performance metrics while distinguishing their search properties and features. That comparison is Bing’s description, not independent testing. If your work spans search engines, use each relevant first-party service for its own reporting rather than assuming one service represents all search traffic.
When to add a dedicated rank-tracking service
A specialist tracker may be a better fit when the job is to monitor positions repeatedly under defined conditions rather than analyze Bing’s reported site traffic. Before paying for one, identify which of these requirements matter and verify them in that provider’s current documentation:
- Search-engine coverage: Does it track the engines and search surfaces your audience uses?
- Scope: Can you monitor the specific keywords and pages you need, at the scale your workflow requires?
- Location, language, and device controls: Can you set the geography, language, and device context needed for meaningful comparisons?
- Measurement: Does the service report tracked positions, SERP features, or other signals? Check definitions before comparing them with Bing’s clicks, impressions, CTR, or average position.
- History and cadence: How far back does it retain results, how often does it refresh them, and can it send scheduled reports?
- Workflow: Are the exports, integrations, collaboration features, and pricing suitable for your team?
These are decision criteria, not confirmed features of any particular alternative. A position-tracking product and Bing’s first-party performance report may answer different questions, so compare the work each enables rather than assuming their numbers are interchangeable.

Keep AI citation reporting separate from keyword ranks
In February 2026, Bing introduced AI Performance in public preview for visibility into publisher content cited across Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing, and select partner integrations. Bing says aggregate cited-page figures do not establish a page’s ranking, authority, or role in an individual answer. Its June 16, 2026 announcement described preview additions called Intents, Topics, Citation Share, and Compare. These are AI visibility signals, not conventional keyword positions; check current availability before relying on them. See Bing’s AI Performance preview announcement and June 2026 update.
