The claim is attributed to Reddit user IcyPenguin28 and was relayed in an October 6 post by X account AsobiAr. Push Square describes the theory as tenuous; the Reddit poster reportedly said they had heard from “a couple credible sources.” That is an account of an online claim, not independent confirmation of a game project. Why is Evening Star being linked to Ape Escape?
The studio is a plausible-sounding fit to some commentators because its previous game was Penny’s Big Breakaway and senior staff have been associated with Sonic Mania. Those credentials are context, not evidence that Evening Star has been hired for Ape Escape.

Coverage also points to a reported senior 3D character artist listing seeking anime-stylized character experience and to the studio head’s move to Tokyo. Neither clue identifies Ape Escape or confirms a Sony contract. Sonic City says the listing described a role on the studio’s “current project” and had been public since at least July 2025—more than a year before this rumour surfaced. It also reports that Evening Star had another project underway, but the project’s identity is not established in the coverage.
