In a conversation with The Next Web, Huang connected that idea to Zoom’s “conversation to completion” strategy: using AI to help carry out authorized tasks after people talk.
Cristian Dina’s interview with Huang was recorded in Amsterdam on September 22, 2026, at a Zoom event ahead of HumanX, and published by The Next Web on October 6 as the second episode of its new podcast. Zoom’s September 4 article also identifies Huang as its CTO and notes his previous roles as Microsoft Azure AI CTO and Technical Fellow. What Huang meant by “bringing Steve Jobs”
“Just imagine the possibility. You can afford to bring Steve Jobs to every meeting you are attending,” Huang said. He was describing the potential of meeting AI, including My Notes and ZoomMate: tools intended to help users capture conversations and get useful work done afterward. The line is an analogy for access to an AI assistant, not a promise of a digital Steve Jobs, a replica of his expertise, or a substitute for human judgment.

Huang calls Zoom’s direction “C2C,” short for “conversation to completion.” The idea is to move beyond saving a recording or producing a summary: AI could help perform tasks that arise from a conversation, when a person authorizes them. Huang called 2026 “the year of completion.” Those phrases describe his strategic ambition; they do not establish that every meeting can currently trigger automated actions.

What Huang says My Notes and ZoomMate do
Capture across meeting services and in person
Huang said My Notes can capture conversations in Zoom, Microsoft, and Google meetings, as well as in-person conversations. He also said many users do not realize it can work outside Zoom. That cross-platform capability and the observation about user awareness are his statements in the interview, not an independent product test.
Speech recognition beyond Zoom’s own feature
Huang said Zoom made the speech-recognition technology behind My Notes available to other companies through the Scribe API, and that version two was out at the time of the interview. He also said Scribe powers ZoomMate and customer-support tools. TNW reported Huang’s claim that Scribe had remained at the top of the Open ASR Leaderboard since its first version; the article described that leaderboard as containing more than 60 speech-recognition systems. These are interview-reported claims, not a separately verified comparison.

How Huang describes Zoom’s model strategy
Huang described a multi-model system using models from OpenAI and Anthropic alongside Zoom’s own small language model. In his account, simpler work is routed to smaller models and harder tasks to frontier models. He compared the need for multiple perspectives to judging in gymnastics: “When you actually play gymnastics, you know why there are multiple judges.” This is Huang’s description of Zoom’s approach, not an independently audited account of its architecture or model performance.
Transcription accuracy and language coverage
Huang cited an evaluation associated with the Speech Accessibility Project at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. As reported by TNW, he said the speech-recognition error rate rose from about 3% to five or six per cent for participants who had had a stroke or could not speak clearly. This is a reported comparison for that evaluation and speaker group; it should not be read as a general error rate for every user, language, or setting.

Huang said Zoom offered its best transcription in about ten languages and wanted to cover all 24 official EU languages. The 24-language figure is an ambition he stated, not confirmation that all 24 were supported at the time of the interview. Huang’s framing leaves people responsible for decisions: AI can help them decide, but it does not replace their role. He closed with a pointed observation about the limits of generated content: “The more AI slop you have to deal with, the more you would like to talk to people like me.” In that light, the Steve Jobs metaphor is best understood as an aspiration for useful assistance—not a claim that more AI is always better or that a meeting assistant can replace human expertise.
