Adaware Antivirus has been discontinued: Adaware Support says it is no longer sold and no longer receives definition updates. That makes it a poor choice for current protection. Adaware still promotes a separate Windows product, Adaware Privacy, but its advertised features should be read as vendor claims, not proof of independently tested malware protection.
What happened to Adaware Antivirus?
Adaware Support’s FAQ, dated December 12, 2025, states that “Adaware Antivirus and all previous software versions have been officially discontinued.” The company says the software is no longer available to purchase and no longer receives definition updates. It also says downloads and license transfers are no longer supported and that customer care is limited. Read Adaware’s Antivirus FAQ.

Definition updates help security software recognize newly identified threats. Without them, the discontinued Antivirus product should not be treated as maintained, current anti-malware protection.

Can you still download, install, activate, or update it?
Adaware’s FAQ addresses questions about downloading, installing, reinstalling, activating, purchasing, and updating definitions; its answers reflect the product’s discontinued status. The existence of older support materials does not change that status.

Those are support materials for the discontinued product, not evidence that it is maintained or a recommendation to install it for protection today. See Adaware’s Fix my PC page.
What is Adaware Privacy?
Adaware currently promotes Adaware Privacy as downloadable Windows software. Its product page advertises ad blocking, tracker protection, malicious-site blocking, email leak checks, camera and microphone protection, and website whitelisting. It lists breach monitoring for up to five email addresses and VPN access as Pro features. See Adaware Privacy’s product page.

These are descriptions from the vendor. They do not establish how well the software detects malware, how often it produces false positives, or how much it affects system performance. No current independent detection or performance results are established here. Also, browser or URL blocking and privacy controls are not the same thing as demonstrated file- and system-level malware detection.

The product page lists Windows support and minimum requirements of a Pentium-class processor, 64 MB of RAM, and 10 MB of storage. The page does not clearly tie those figures to a software version or a particular current Windows configuration, so they should not be taken as a compatibility guarantee.
