The useful question is whether you make adjustments often enough that a reachable dial is more convenient than using keys, a mouse, or on-screen controls.

Layout and connectivity
A 75% layout is more compact than a full-size keyboard and omits some keys or sections. Check the product’s layout diagram against the keys you rely on, especially the number pad and navigation keys. Knob, layout, and connectivity are separate features: a smaller keyboard is not automatically wireless, and a knob does not determine which keys are included.

For example, Keychron describes the Q1 as a customizable 75% mechanical keyboard. Its V1 page describes a wired ANSI 75% model and lists a knob option (Keychron V1 product page). Verify the exact variant rather than assuming every configuration has the same controls or connectivity.
Programming and software
Keychron says the Q1 knob can be configured through VIA, with QMK and Keychron Launcher options for remapping keys and creating macros (Keychron Q1 product page). Before purchase, confirm that the configuration workflow supports your operating system and that you are comfortable setting up the functions you want. Software and model support can vary by keyboard and may change.

Hot-swappable switches
Hot-swap is a separate customization feature: it lets you replace compatible switches without soldering, but only if the keyboard has hot-swap sockets and the replacement switches match the supported type. Keychron lists support for 3-pin and 5-pin MX mechanical switches on the cited Q1 page; its Q10 documentation also describes 3-pin and 5-pin switch compatibility (Keychron Q10 product page). Do not assume that switches fit every mechanical keyboard.

How to decide whether it belongs on your must-have list
- Write down the adjustments you make repeatedly, such as volume, brightness, or zoom.
