That confirms support, not how smoothly the game runs on each model. The official sources do not give comparable handheld frame rates, resolutions, graphics settings, or battery-life results, so check current tests of the specific device before buying one for E-Day.
What “optimized for handheld play” confirms
The Steam listing says the game is “Fully optimized for handheld play on Steam Deck, Xbox Ally X, and Xbox Ally devices.” Xbox also lists Windows PC and Steam among the game’s platforms. These statements establish official support for the named handhelds; they do not guarantee a particular frame rate, image quality, or battery runtime on any one device. What to check before choosing a handheld
Because no comparable results for the named devices are established in the cited official sources, a useful purchase decision depends on current testing of the retail game on the exact model you are considering. Look for tests that identify the game version and settings rather than relying on the optimization label alone.

Xbox describes the PC version as built on Unreal Engine 5 and DirectX 12, with hardware ray tracing and support for DLSS 4.5, FSR, Unreal Engine TSR, and XeSS on compatible hardware. Those features show the PC version has a broad graphics feature set, but they do not establish how a handheld handles it. Xbox Wire: PC features and technology

Local play or cloud gaming?
Xbox’s October 1 announcement lists cloud gaming through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW in addition to local PC and console platforms. Cloud streaming can be an alternative if local rendering does not meet your expectations, but it depends on service availability, supported devices, account or subscription terms, and your network. Check those details for your region and setup before relying on cloud play. Xbox launch announcement

E-Day is a third-person shooter origin story set fourteen years before the first Gears of War. Xbox describes a solo campaign, online co-op, Horde Siege PvE, and Versus PvP. Its product information says online campaign co-op and other multiplayer features require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer; two-player split-screen is console-only. A handheld therefore suits portable solo play, but it is not a way to get local split-screen co-op. Xbox launch announcement
