Ubisoft Toronto is leading the project, which was announced in 2021 and is being rebuilt with the Snowdrop engine. That is not confirmation of a separate sequel, and Ubisoft has not announced a release date or launch window in the official sources reviewed here.
What exactly has Ubisoft confirmed?
Ubisoft announced on December 15, 2021, that development had begun on a remake of the original Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell. The project is led by Ubisoft Toronto and is being rebuilt from the ground up using Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine. Ubisoft’s announcement describes a remake—not a newly announced numbered sequel or another standalone entry.

What is known about its status and release?
The latest dated statement about active work in the official sources cited here is from Ubisoft Toronto on June 10, 2025. The studio said it was “currently” working on Splinter Cell and the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. The post confirms the studio’s stated activity at that time, but gives no development milestone or schedule. Ubisoft Toronto’s current project page also identifies the project as a remake led by the studio, but is undated and does not provide launch information.
Those sources do not provide a release date, launch window, platform list, price, edition details, or preorder information. The time elapsed since the 2021 announcement is not evidence of a particular release year. Ubisoft would need to publish new, specific details to establish any of those.

- Incredible real movement and control - you can even shift Sam's weight when preparing him for a split jump between two walls
- Exciting new moves maximize Sam's lethal fighting skills -- spin out of the shadows and kill silently
- All-new moves and levels - fight in jungles, on rooftops, on top of(and under) a moving train
- Advanced AI makes it harder than ever to get past enemies - if you reveal yourself they'll get reinforcements and put on armor
- Weapons now have secondary functions that can be equipped on the fly - be amazed at the advantage you get from the red dot of the laser sight
What kind of game is the remake intended to be?
Ubisoft’s 2021 announcement described the aim as updating the original while preserving its identity. Producer Matt West said the team intended to retain a linear structure rather than make the game open world: “we are going to keep it linear like the original games, not make it open world.” Creative Director Chris Auty emphasized stealth built around observing situations, planning, using gadgets, and outsmarting enemies.
These are developer-stated intentions, not a final feature list or confirmation of exactly how the finished game will play. In a November 17, 2022 anniversary feature, Ubisoft Toronto said the remake was being rebuilt with Snowdrop and that the team planned major advancements in AI engagement, lighting, animation, and audio. That statement also describes plans at the time, not independently verified features in a released game.

Does Ubisoft’s October 2026 portfolio mention mean there is another game?
No separate game announcement is established by that listing. In its October 2026 announcement about Massive Entertainment, Ubisoft included the Splinter Cell franchise in a broader portfolio list. The announcement does not say that Massive leads the remake, identify a new standalone title, or give a remake milestone. A franchise appearing in a portfolio list is not, by itself, confirmation of another game.
