Start in Settings > Wi-Fi: make sure Wi-Fi is on, then tap the network you want to join. If a blue checkmark appears beside its name, the iPhone has joined the network—but that alone does not confirm internet access. The next step is to find out whether the problem is joining, getting online, or limited to one network.
First, identify what is failing
Apple’s guide, “If you can’t connect to Wi-Fi on your iPhone or iPad”, recommends comparing the iPhone with other devices and trying a different Wi-Fi network. Use those checks to choose the right troubleshooting path:

- The iPhone cannot join: It does not connect to the network, or the network does not appear.
- The iPhone joins but cannot get online: It shows a blue checkmark, but apps or websites do not load or it displays “No Internet Connection.”
- Only one network fails: The iPhone works elsewhere, pointing toward that network’s router, settings, or access rules.
- Every network fails: The issue may be with the iPhone; contact Apple if the basic checks below do not resolve it.
For a managed school, workplace, or public network, its administrator may need to check access controls or configuration. For a home network that also fails on other devices, the ISP may need to investigate the connection.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Check the iPhone’s Wi-Fi and Airplane Mode
- Open Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on if it is off.
- Tap the intended network and enter its password if prompted. Apple’s “Connect to Wi-Fi on your iPhone or iPad” explains the joining process and network prompts.
- Check that Airplane Mode is off.
- If the Wi-Fi control is dimmed, restart the iPhone and check again.
A blue checkmark beside the network means the iPhone has joined it. If the phone still reports “No Internet Connection,” continue with the network checks rather than repeatedly entering the Wi-Fi password.

If the iPhone joins but has no internet
Connect another device to the same Wi-Fi and try loading a website. If multiple devices cannot get online, the problem is broader than the iPhone: the router, modem, or ISP connection may be at fault. Apple notes that an outage may be involved and recommends contacting the ISP when appropriate.
If other devices work on that Wi-Fi, but the iPhone does not, test the iPhone on a different network. A failure on just one network points toward that network’s configuration or access policy; failure across networks makes an iPhone-side problem more plausible.

If one network is the problem, check its router and access rules
- Power and range: Confirm the router and modem are on, and test from closer to the router.
- Other devices: Check whether they can join and get online on the same network.
- Firmware and compatibility: Check for current router firmware and confirm the router’s configuration is compatible with the Apple device.
- Frequency: If the router offers separate bands, try another supported option, such as 5 GHz instead of 2.4 GHz.
- Restart: Unplug the router and cable modem, reconnect them, and allow the network to come back up before testing again.
- Network visibility and admission: A hidden network, access control, or unsupported configuration may stop the network from appearing or admitting the iPhone. Ask the network administrator or ISP to check these settings, especially on managed networks.
Replacing a router is not the default first step; first check power, range, firmware, compatibility, and whether other devices connect.
Test VPN or security software only if you use it
A VPN or security app can be relevant when the problem began after installing or changing it. Apple recommends uninstalling the software, restarting the iPhone, and testing Wi-Fi. If that test isolates the software but you need it, contact the provider or the person who manages it before deciding whether to reinstall or change its settings.

Check Private Wi-Fi Address only when compatibility is a plausible cause
Private Wi-Fi Address is a privacy feature, not a routine fix for connection problems. Keep it enabled on networks that support it. If a network’s access controls or compatibility appear to be the issue, first update the iPhone’s software; Apple says organizations may need to update Wi-Fi security or use managed profiles for devices using private addresses.
To inspect the network-specific setting, open Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the network’s info button, and review its Private Wi-Fi Address option. Available labels and choices can vary by software version and network.
