If your iPhone screen has turned grey and white, check whether Grayscale is enabled in Color Filters. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Color Filters, then turn Color Filters off or select a filter other than Grayscale. If the color returns but disappears again later, check whether Color Filters is assigned to Accessibility Shortcut.
Turn off Grayscale in Color Filters
Apple’s iPhone guide explains that Color Filters can apply a filter across the entire screen, including a grayscale filter. Apple’s instructions for changing display colors give this path:

- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility, then Display & Text Size.
- Tap Color Filters.
- Turn Color Filters off, or choose a filter other than Grayscale.
Color Filters also offers adjustments to a filter’s intensity or hue. Because the filter changes the appearance of the whole display, photos and videos can look different while it is active.

Check whether a shortcut turns it back on
If the screen becomes colorful again and later returns to grayscale, see whether Color Filters is assigned to Accessibility Shortcut. Open Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut and review the selected features.

On an iPhone with Face ID, a triple-click of the side button can toggle the selected shortcut features. On other iPhone models, triple-click the Home button. If several features are selected, a menu appears so you can choose which one to turn on or off. Apple describes how to configure and use this shortcut in its Accessibility Shortcut guide.

- Grayscale: A Color Filters option that removes color from the displayed image.
- Dark Mode: Changes the interface’s color scheme; it is not the Grayscale filter.
- Night Shift: Shifts the display toward warmer colors.
- True Tone: Adjusts the display’s color and intensity to suit ambient light.
- Brightness: Changes how bright the display appears, not whether it shows color.
Apple notes that some accessibility display settings, including Grayscale, might turn off True Tone. Its guide to brightness and color temperature explains these separate controls.

The documented Color Filters and shortcut controls explain a common settings-based cause, but they do not determine why a particular iPhone would remain gray after those controls have been checked. A persistent gray display alone does not establish that the screen needs replacement. For device-specific troubleshooting or an assessment, contact Apple Support or an authorized service provider.

Don't insert pick over 3 mm, and don't insert your pick in left edge, as may damage internal components. Remove the screw securing the display connector bracket and disconnect the front sensor cable. Connect the new screen cable and please carefully align and press down on one side until it clicks into place. Do not press down on the middle. If the connector is misaligned, causing permanent damage.
