Apple documents these controls, but its guides do not confirm a widespread iOS 27 bug or promise that any one setting will fix every screen.
First, change the Home Screen icon style
Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the icons jiggle, tap Edit, then tap Customize. Try Light, Dark, or Auto. If Clear or Tinted is selected, switch to another style and see whether the icons are easier to distinguish. You can also adjust the tint and its saturation.

Choose between larger icons and visible app names
The same Edit > Customize controls let you make icons larger. Larger icons may be easier to identify by shape, but Apple notes that app names disappear when icons are large. If you rely on labels to find apps, keep the smaller size or compare both settings before settling on one.

Make transparent backgrounds solid
For blurred or see-through areas that blend into the wallpaper, open Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and turn on Reduce Transparency. Apple says this changes transparent or blurred backgrounds to an opaque solid color, which can make those areas easier to see.
Increase contrast between screen elements
In Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, turn on Increase Contrast. Apple Support describes the setting this way: “You can increase the contrast that appears between different elements on your iPhone, like apps and background colors.” The effect may help if icons or interface elements do not stand out from the colors behind them.

If the problem is limited to one widget, check its size and any appearance or content options offered by its app. Touch and hold the widget to look for editing or resizing controls; available choices vary by app. Apple’s widget guidance notes that Clear and Tinted appearances can desaturate widget content, and recommends avoiding very small text. Its general design guidance is to use text at 11 points or larger; that is a design recommendation, not a guarantee that every widget will be readable at that size.

What the iOS 27 label does—and does not—tell you
Apple’s iOS 26 feature document identifies Liquid Glass and clear or tinted icon and widget styling as iOS 26 features. That does not establish that iOS 27 caused a particular readability problem. - Change Clear or Tinted icons to Light, Dark, or Auto and check the Home Screen.
- Try a different icon size, keeping in mind that larger icons hide app names.
- Turn on Reduce Transparency, then check whether translucent areas are easier to distinguish.
- Turn on Increase Contrast and check the same screen again.
- If only a widget remains difficult to read, resize it or explore the options provided by its app.
Change one setting at a time so you can tell which adjustment helps on your device. Wallpaper, tint, widget design, app version, and device configuration can all affect what you see; Apple’s guidance does not establish which one is responsible for a particular case.
