It is not a universal iPhone setting name. On a supported iPhone, check Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data for the 4G/LTE or VoLTE option your carrier provides. If that control is missing, your carrier can confirm whether your iPhone, SIM or eSIM, plan, and account support VoLTE.
What “Enhanced 4G” means on an iPhone
VoLTE means voice calls carried over an LTE network. Some carriers use their own wording for the service: Verizon, for example, calls its VoLTE service HD Voice and describes it as operating over its 4G LTE network (Verizon HD Voice FAQs). AT&T’s device-specific guide for the iPhone SE (2nd generation) likewise describes VoLTE calls using the 4G LTE data network (AT&T iPhone SE (2nd generation) guide).

Apple’s iPhone guide uses labels such as “Voice & Data (VoLTE)” and “4G/LTE,” rather than a universal “Enhanced 4G” switch. A phone showing LTE for its network does not, by itself, confirm that VoLTE is enabled for calls on your carrier line; carrier and device support and configuration matter.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Cellular. Depending on your region or iOS version, this may be called Mobile Data.
- Tap Cellular Data Options.
- Tap Voice & Data, if it appears.
- Choose the supported 4G/LTE or VoLTE option shown for your line. The available labels depend on your iPhone and carrier.
Apple’s documented path and available controls are described in View or change cellular data settings on iPhone. This is a settings change; you do not need to buy a product or accessory to make it.

How LTE, VoLTE, and 5G options differ
- LTE or 4G: Selects a cellular network mode or data option when offered. Choosing LTE does not universally turn on VoLTE.
- VoLTE: Enables or identifies voice over LTE where the carrier and device support it. Some carriers may manage the feature without exposing a separate toggle.
- 5G options: On iPhone 12 and later with a 5G data plan, Apple says the menu may offer choices such as 5G Auto or LTE. With 5G Auto, iPhone can switch to LTE when 5G does not provide noticeably better performance. Your exact choices may differ.
Apple notes that 4G/LTE may load internet data faster in some cases and may reduce battery performance. That is a general trade-off, not a guarantee about the result on every network or device.

The menu is not identical across carriers, regions, iPhone models, or iOS configurations. Apple says cellular options depend on the model and carrier, and directs users to their wireless provider for service questions. If you cannot find Voice & Data or a VoLTE choice, ask your carrier to check:

- Whether your iPhone model is supported for VoLTE on its network.
- Whether your SIM or eSIM and account are provisioned for the service.
- Whether your plan supports it and whether the carrier exposes a user-controlled toggle.
A visible LTE network selection is not enough to establish that VoLTE calling is active. The carrier can confirm support and configuration for your specific line.
