To fix iPhone battery drain on iOS 27, first check Settings > Battery to see which app, system activity, or usage pattern is consuming power. Then change the setting that matches what you find. If the update just finished, give your iPhone a few days to complete background work before deciding the drain is persistent.
Find what is using your battery before changing settings
- Open Settings > Battery. Review any suggestions or Insights above Daily Usage.
- Compare today’s usage with the previous seven days. Tap View All Battery Usage, then select a day to inspect apps and system activity.
- Look at both battery use and activity duration. Note whether the activity was on-screen or in the background, whether notifications were involved, and whether the phone reported low cellular coverage.
These details help distinguish heavy screen use from background work or poor reception. Battery labels and available details can vary by iPhone model and iOS version. Apple’s guide to iPhone battery drain troubleshooting explains how to read the Battery screen.

If iOS 27 was just installed, wait and check again
An update can trigger background work that temporarily affects battery life and thermal performance. Your Battery screen may show an Ongoing iOS Update insight. Apple advises waiting a few days after an update before reassessing a drop in battery life; compare the usage chart again once that period has passed.
Change the setting that matches the activity
If the display is using the most power
Lower the screen brightness, and consider enabling Auto-Brightness or shortening the Auto-Lock interval. Apple may surface these as Battery suggestions when they are relevant.

If an app is active in the background
Reduce that app’s use or limit its background fetching if the Battery screen shows substantial background activity. To manage fetching, open Settings > General > Background App Refresh. You can turn it off, or choose Wi-Fi instead of Wi-Fi & Cellular Data. Limiting refresh may delay updates that an app retrieves in the background, so target the apps implicated by your usage rather than disabling it automatically across the board.
If notifications are repeatedly waking the iPhone
Adjust notifications for the app responsible. Fewer alerts can mean fewer screen wake-ups, but you may also miss or receive later notifications from that app.

If cellular reception is weak or unavailable
Use Wi-Fi or move to an area with a stronger cellular signal when practical. If you will be without coverage for a while, Airplane Mode can help prevent the phone from continually searching for a network; you will not receive cellular calls or messages while it is on.

Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode is a reversible way to reduce power use, not a diagnosis or a fix for every cause. On iPhone 15 and later, go to Settings > Battery > Power Mode > Low Power Mode. On older models, it appears directly under Settings > Battery; it is also available in Control Center.

Depending on your model and software, Low Power Mode can reduce or pause features such as background refresh, mail fetching, downloads, visual effects, brightness, or display refresh rate. It turns off when the iPhone reaches 80% charge or higher.
Adaptive Power
On supported models, Adaptive Power can make adjustments automatically, including slightly lowering brightness, limiting background activity, or turning on Low Power Mode when the battery reaches 20%. Apple says the feature needs at least seven days to learn your usage habits before it can engage. Find it at Settings > Battery > Power Mode > Adaptive Power when available.

Adaptive Power is not available on every iPhone. Apple lists it for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max and newer eligible generations. It is on by default on the iPhone 17 family and iPhone Air; on selected iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max and iPhone 16 models, it is supported but off by default. Check your model’s settings rather than assuming the option is present.
Check Battery Health if the drain continues
Open Settings > Battery > Battery Health on iPhone 15 and later, or Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging on iPhone 14 and earlier. If the screen says Service, consider battery replacement. Apple recommends battery service or recycling through Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider; replacement parts must be compatible with your exact iPhone model.

What the evidence can—and cannot—tell you
Apple released iOS 27 on September 14, 2026. Its release announcement includes battery-life testing with prerelease software, but that does not establish how much a particular setting will extend an individual phone’s battery life. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance also does not establish a general iOS 27 battery-drain defect or a guaranteed improvement from any one toggle. Use your own Battery screen to identify the cause and judge whether a targeted change helps.
Apple defines battery life as “the amount of time that your device works before it needs to be recharged.” Its advice to wait a few days after updating is a troubleshooting interval, not a promise of a specific improvement.
