1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor gaming and video, choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max if a larger screen and longer unplugged video playback matter most; choose the iPhone 18 Pro if you want a smaller, lighter phone. Apple lists the same A20 Pro chip, vapor-chamber cooling, up-to-120Hz ProMotion display support, and video-capture features for both, so its published specifications do not establish a performance or recording-mode advantage for the Max. This is the current-generation comparison: Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max on September 9, 2026, with availability starting September 18.
At a glance: iPhone 18 Pro vs. Pro Max
| Feature | iPhone 18 Pro | iPhone 18 Pro Max | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display | 6.3-inch OLED, 2622 × 1206 pixels, 460 ppi | 6.9-inch OLED, 2868 × 1320 pixels, 460 ppi | The Max gives games and videos more physical screen area; both have the same listed pixel density. |
| Refresh rate | ProMotion, adaptive up to 120Hz | ProMotion, adaptive up to 120Hz | Apple lists the same refresh-rate ceiling for both. |
| Weight | 211 g | 249 g | The Pro is 38 g lighter and 6.1 mm narrower. |
| Video playback estimate | Up to 36 hours; streamed up to 33 hours | Up to 45 hours; streamed up to 40 hours | Apple’s maximum estimates favor the Max by 9 hours for video playback and 7 hours for streamed playback; these are not gaming-runtime results. |
| Chip and thermal design | A20 Pro; next-generation vapor chamber | A20 Pro; next-generation vapor chamber | Apple lists the same platform and thermal system for both. |
| Video capture | Includes 4K Dolby Vision up to 120 fps on Fusion Main, ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and Genlock | Same listed feature set | Apple’s specifications do not list a capture mode exclusive to Pro Max. |
Display, weight, playback, and recording figures are from Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro technical specifications. Apple’s September 9, 2026 announcement describes the A20 Pro and next-generation vapor chamber as delivering the highest sustained performance in iPhone history. That is Apple’s claim, not an independent comparison between the two models.

Which model is better for gaming?
Pick Pro Max for a larger play area
The 6.9-inch Pro Max gives games more screen area than the 6.3-inch Pro. That can make small interface elements easier to see and leaves more room for on-screen controls, though whether the larger handset feels better in a particular game depends on how you hold and play it.
Pick Pro if comfort and portability matter more
At 211 g, the Pro is 38 g lighter than the 249 g Pro Max, and Apple lists it as 6.1 mm narrower. If you hold your phone for long sessions or prefer a more compact device, those differences may matter more than the Max’s larger display.

Do not assume the Max runs games faster
Apple lists the same A20 Pro chip, next-generation vapor chamber, and adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz for both phones. The company says the chip and cooling system deliver its highest sustained performance in iPhone history, but the available official information does not give side-by-side game frame rates, measured temperatures, or controlled gaming battery runtimes for Pro and Pro Max. A higher frame rate or lower heat on the Max is therefore not established by these specifications.
Which model is better for watching or editing video?
The Pro Max is the clearer fit if you want the biggest viewing area and longer time away from a charger. Its 6.9-inch display is larger, and Apple estimates up to 45 hours of video playback or up to 40 hours of streamed playback, compared with up to 36 hours and up to 33 hours, respectively, for the Pro. These are manufacturer playback estimates, not guarantees for every viewing pattern or measurements of gaming endurance.

Both displays are listed at 460 ppi and support adaptive ProMotion up to 120Hz. The difference is screen size, not a higher stated pixel density or refresh-rate ceiling on the Max. The larger panel may be more comfortable for viewing or working on clips directly on the phone; choose the Pro if you would rather trade some screen area for a lighter, narrower handset.

Apple lists the same major video-capture options for both models, including 4K Dolby Vision recording up to 120 fps on the Fusion Main camera, ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and Genlock. Its specifications do not identify a recording mode reserved for Pro Max, so the larger screen and longer playback estimates are not evidence that the Max captures better-quality video.

If your priority is capturing footage, the published feature list gives no Pro Max-only recording capability. If your priority is reviewing or editing clips on the phone itself, the Max’s larger display may be more useful.
