Both displays are OLED Super Retina XDR panels with ProMotion up to 120Hz and the same listed maximum brightness figures. The Pro Max has more pixels because its panel is larger, but both are listed at 460 ppi; the specifications do not give the Max a pixel-density advantage. Dimensions can help you compare, but they cannot tell you how either phone will feel in your grip or pocket.

Which model is better for your day-to-day use?
Choose iPhone 18 Pro for manageability
The Pro is 13.4 mm shorter and 38 g lighter than the Pro Max, with a 6.3-inch display. Favor it if one-handed use, pocket fit, or holding the phone for long stretches matters more than having the biggest screen. If possible, handle both sizes before deciding: comfort depends on your hands and habits as well as the measurements.

Choose iPhone 18 Pro Max for more screen
The 6.9-inch display gives more viewing area for reading, watching video, gaming, or editing on the phone. Pick the larger model if those uses are frequent enough to outweigh its additional size and weight. The listed resolution is higher on the Max, but pixel density is the same as on the Pro.
How much longer does the Pro Max battery last?
Apple’s 2026 published estimates are higher for the Pro Max: up to 30 hours of typical use and up to 45 hours of video playback, compared with up to 24 hours and up to 36 hours, respectively, for the Pro. These are manufacturer estimates, not a guarantee of your runtime or a direct prediction of your screen-on time. Apple’s specifications and testing notes describe controlled testing with preproduction phones: the typical-use profile combines activities using median iPhone-user usage values, while the video figure comes from playback under defined test settings. Your results will vary with use and conditions. No independent, like-for-like battery comparison is established here.

Are the Pro Max chip or rear cameras better?
Apple lists an A20 Pro chip and a 48MP Pro Fusion rear-camera system on both models, including the listed main, ultra-wide, and telephoto cameras. The main camera’s variable aperture is also listed for both. The published specifications therefore do not support choosing the Max for a different rear-camera system or a faster chip. They also do not establish that the two phones produce identical results in every real-world shooting condition.
How should you compare prices?
Both models list the same storage tiers—256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB—but that does not establish a universal price difference. Check the current price for your country, chosen storage, carrier, and retailer before buying; promotions and availability can vary.
