iPhone 18 Pro Payment Options: What Apple Card, Klarna and Paying Upfront Require

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the U.S. Compare paying upfront, financing a purchase with Apple Card, and leasing through Apple Upgrade with Klarna.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For Apple’s U.S. checkout, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, but the three routes compared here work differently: paying outright buys the phone at checkout, Apple Card Monthly Installments finance a purchase, and Apple Upgrade through Klarna is a lease. The right fit depends on whether you want to own the phone, qualify for an account, meet carrier requirements, and accept a return or buyout at lease end. Details and prices below reflect Apple’s offers as of October 7, 2026; they can change.

How the three checkout routes differ

Route What you pay for Application or approval iPhone carrier requirement What happens to the phone
Pay outright The selected model’s displayed price and checkout charges No installment application is indicated for an ordinary purchase Depends on the checkout route and selection You purchase the device
Apple Card Monthly Installments (ACMI) Eligible purchase price in installments; taxes and shipping are treated separately Apple Card approval and available credit limit apply Select AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon You finance a purchase; Apple says an iPhone bought with ACMI is unlocked
Apple Upgrade through Klarna Monthly lease payments; taxes, any purchase option and other separate charges may add to the outlay Klarna eligibility and creditworthiness review Eligible AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon plan; prepaid plans are excluded Return the phone in good working condition, start a new lease, or use the purchase option

Apple’s financing pages describe these as distinct checkout choices, not interchangeable labels for the same payment plan. The comparison is limited to Apple’s U.S. offers. Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro announcement and offer terms, its financing page.

What does the iPhone 18 Pro cost?

Apple announced a U.S. starting price of $1,199 for the iPhone 18 Pro and identifies the 256GB model at that price. The listed storage options are 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. Your selected configuration, tax, shipping, any trade-in and any carrier offer affect the checkout amount; Apple does not give one universal tax-inclusive total.

For Apple Upgrade, Apple’s stated monthly figures vary by storage configuration. Its 256GB example is $49.99 per month for 12 months or $34.99 per month for 24 months, before taxes and trade-in credit. Across the iPhone 18 Pro configurations, Apple gives typical ranges of $49.99–$100.03 monthly for 12 months and $34.99–$70.01 monthly for 24 months. These are lease payments, not a statement of the total cost to own the phone.

#1 Best Overall
Apple iPhone 17 Pro, US Version, 512GB, eSIM, Deep Blue- Unlocked (Renewed)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

Apple also advertises time-sensitive trade-in and carrier promotions. Its September 2026 announcement says an iPhone 13 or later trade-in may provide $175–$885 in instant credit depending on condition, year and configuration, and cites carrier credits up to $1,200 for eligible iPhone 14 or later trade-ins in any condition. Eligibility and offer terms should be checked at purchase; neither figure is a guaranteed credit for every customer. Apple’s September 9, 2026 announcement.

Paying outright: simplest ownership, largest checkout payment

Choose the ordinary purchase route if you want to pay the selected phone price and applicable checkout charges rather than apply for installments or lease the device. The $1,199 starting price is for the 256GB model, before any applicable tax, shipping or adjustments. A larger storage configuration costs more; trade-in credit or an eligible carrier promotion may change the amount due.

Apple’s cited pages do not establish a single tax-inclusive total or a universal carrier condition for every ordinary purchase route. Review the selected model, carrier choice and final checkout total before placing the order.

Apple Card Monthly Installments: financing a purchase

What you need

  • An Apple Card account, with approval and sufficient available credit for the transaction.
  • To select Apple Card Monthly Installments as the payment type at Apple checkout.
  • For an iPhone, to select AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon during checkout, under Apple’s current offer terms.

Apple describes ACMI as 0% APR for eligible purchases, subject to approval and current terms. Apple says an iPhone purchased with ACMI is unlocked. The financed balance is on Apple Card—not a lease—and installments appear in Wallet and count toward the card’s minimum payment due. Apple Card Monthly Installments.

Charges outside the 0% installment offer

Apple says taxes and shipping on ACMI purchases are subject to the Apple Card’s variable APR, not ACMI’s 0% APR. The actual rate depends on the card account; do not assume a particular tax or shipping rate from the installment offer. Apple also notes that some special online storefronts are excluded and terms may change. Apple’s U.S. financing and credit page.

Apple Upgrade through Klarna: a lease, not installment ownership

Application and carrier requirements

At Apple checkout, choose Apple Upgrade and apply with Klarna. Apple’s live FAQ says first-time applicants provide their legal name, date of birth, phone number and email, billing address, and Social Security number. Applicants need an eligible, valid U.S. credit or debit card (prepaid cards are excluded), U.S. residence outside U.S. territories, legal capacity and minimum age, and the ability to receive text verification codes. Apple’s launch terms also list a Klarna account and Apple Account in good standing.

Apple says the application includes a soft credit check that does not affect the credit score, but approval still depends on eligibility and creditworthiness. A soft check is not a promise of approval. For an iPhone, Apple’s program terms require an eligible AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon plan and exclude prepaid carrier plans. Apple describes leased iPhones as unlocked, subject to carrier terms. Apple Upgrade FAQ; Apple’s July 2026 program announcement.

Payments and separate costs

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro lease examples are configuration-specific: for 256GB, $49.99 monthly over 12 months or $34.99 monthly over 24 months, excluding taxes and trade-in credit. The first lease payment is due about 30 days after shipment or pickup availability, and Apple says there is no security deposit.

  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

Klarna payments can be made with debit cards and select major credit cards, subject to listed network and issuer exclusions. Apple says Apple Pay and PayPal are not accepted for Apple Upgrade. AppleCare and accessories not financed through Klarna are charged separately by Apple.

At the end of the lease

At the end of the initial term, you can return the iPhone in good working condition, upgrade by entering a new lease, or pay the purchase option through Klarna. The monthly lease payments alone do not transfer ownership. If you take no action at the end of the term, Apple says the lease can continue month-to-month for up to six months; a purchase fee may follow if you take no action then.

Returning or terminating early generally requires paying the remaining lease payments plus applicable taxes. Damage fees may apply if the phone is not returned in good working condition. AppleCare is not included with the lease. Check the current agreement for the applicable purchase option and return requirements before deciding that the monthly payment represents your full cost. Apple Upgrade FAQ.

Choose based on ownership, cash flow and exit costs

  • Choose outright payment if you want to buy the phone without an installment application or lease return decision, and are prepared for the full checkout amount.
  • Consider ACMI if you have an approved Apple Card account, meet the carrier selection requirement, and want to finance a purchase rather than lease. Account approval, credit limit and the treatment of taxes and shipping matter.
  • Consider Apple Upgrade if you accept a Klarna lease and are comfortable returning the phone in good condition, taking a new lease, or paying its purchase option. Compare the complete lease obligations—not only the monthly quote—with the value of owning the device.

Before checkout, verify the exact storage configuration and final amount, carrier and plan eligibility, applicable tax and shipping, trade-in terms, approval requirements, and (for a lease) return condition and end-of-term choices. Apple’s live terms and carrier offers can change.
