The iPhone 18 Pro Max comes in four finishes: Black, Silver, Glacier, and Burgundy. There is no objectively best color in the available evidence; the choice is a matter of which look you prefer and whether you plan to show the phone’s finish or cover it with a case.
What’s new about the iPhone 18 Pro Max finishes?
Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9, 2026, with four finishes: Black, Silver, Glacier, and Burgundy. Apple says the back glass is color-matched. In its review, Tom’s Guide also noted that the camera plateau and back glass are more closely matched than on the previous generation. Apple’s launch announcement and Tom’s Guide’s review provide the relevant descriptions.

This is a finish comparison based on Apple’s product information and the cited review, not a claim of a personal hands-on unboxing. Color impressions can shift with lighting, screen calibration, and the device used to view a photo. Photos—especially promotional renders—are not a dependable way to judge exactly how a finish will look in person.
iPhone 18 Pro Max colors compared
Black
Black is the dark, conventional option in Apple’s lineup. It suits buyers who want a restrained neutral look. The available sources do not establish that it hides fingerprints or scratches better, or holds its resale value better, than the other finishes.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Silver
Silver is the light neutral choice. It offers a different look from Black without choosing one of the lineup’s more distinctive named colors. Apple confirms the finish, but the sources do not provide objective maintenance or durability comparisons.
Glacier
Tom’s Guide describes Glacier as blue. Its reviewer said they preferred Glacier; that is one reviewer’s taste, not a consensus or a guarantee that the color will appeal to every buyer.

Burgundy
Burgundy is Apple’s new dark red finish. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer described it as sophisticated—again, a subjective impression rather than an objective advantage over the other options.

If possible, view the phone in person under more than one kind of lighting before deciding. If you will use an opaque case, the back finish may matter less to your day-to-day view of the phone. A clear case leaves more of the phone’s color visible, while a colored case changes the overall look.
How to compare the colors fairly
When looking at product images or review photos, compare like with like: all four backs and frames in the same scene, under the same lighting and camera settings. Close-ups of the back glass and camera plateau can help show how those areas relate. Check whether images are Apple renders, review photos, or a photographer’s own images; do not treat a single image on one screen as a color-accuracy test.
