Reports also mention Black models. As of 7 October 2026, these are unverified owner reports—not confirmation that the finish is fading, how common the issue is, or what causes it.
What do the reports show?
Gadgets 360 and Unboxholics reported on 6 October 2026 that social-media posts and owner-submitted photos appear to show a color difference around the rear camera module on some Burgundy iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max phones. The descriptions include a lighter or pinkish-looking area compared with the surrounding housing. Both reports also mention claims involving Black models. Gadgets 360 and Unboxholics are relaying user claims, not results from controlled tests.

Apple lists Burgundy as an iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max finish and describes the phones as having an aluminum unibody. That product information does not establish that the reported appearance is a finish defect. Apple’s launch announcement and iPhone 18 Pro technical specifications identify the finish and construction.
Is Burgundy paint actually fading, and how widespread is it?
That has not been established. The available reports show that complaints are circulating, but there is no verified incidence rate, representative sample, controlled comparison, or laboratory analysis in the sources reviewed. Photos and posts cannot determine whether the appearance is a change to the phone’s finish or something else, such as residue, dust, lighting, case-related color transfer, or wear.

Reddit posts offer additional anecdotes, not a reliable measure of prevalence or cause. One owner described dust and discoloration around camera rings; another discussion alleged color rubbing onto a clear case, while commenters disagreed about whether the phone or the case had changed color. The owner account and the case discussion should be treated as unverified reports.
Has Apple acknowledged the reports or offered a fix?
Gadgets 360 reported on 6 October 2026 that Apple had not officially acknowledged the issue at that time. The reviewed sources do not establish an Apple service program, confirmed workaround, or explanation for the alleged discoloration. That is a date-bounded account of the reporting, not a guarantee that Apple has made no later statement.

Does using a case prevent discoloration?
There is no evidence in the reviewed sources that a case prevents the reported appearance. Unboxholics noted that cases were being suggested online, but that suggestion is not a demonstrated fix. Apple’s launch materials show a coordinating MagSafe case; its existence does not show that it protects the finish from discoloration.

If you choose a case, check that it is made for your exact phone: iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are distinct models. Consider practical fit and features—camera-area coverage, button and port access, MagSafe support, grip, bulk, and whether the case hides the Burgundy finish—rather than relying on an unverified promise of finish protection.

What should you do if your phone looks discolored?
- Photograph the area in consistent lighting, from the same angles, so the appearance can be compared over time.
- Note when you first saw the change and whether the phone had been in a case or cleaned; do not assume either caused it.
- Contact Apple Support or the retailer and ask them to assess your specific device. Share the photos and timeline, and ask what inspection or service options apply.
