The iPhone 17 Pro Max and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max are both large-screen flagships, but their launch prices come from different markets and cannot be treated as a current price comparison. Apple listed the iPhone at $1,199 in the US; Xiaomi’s reported China-market starting price was CNY 5,999 for 12GB/512GB. Your better fit depends on where you can buy and support each phone, alongside your priorities for iOS, storage, displays, cameras and charging.
How do the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max compare?
The core trade-off is ecosystem and availability versus a different set of reported hardware features. Apple’s launch materials specify iOS 26, the A19 Pro chip and storage up to 2TB. Xiaomi’s reported China-market specifications include HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, a rear display, and a 7,500mAh battery. These published specifications do not establish which phone performs better in everyday use.

What are the launch prices, and is there a meaningful price difference?
Apple announced a US launch starting price of $1,199 for the iPhone 17 Pro Max in September 2025. Gadgets 360 reports a China-market starting price of CNY 5,999 for the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max in its 12GB/512GB configuration. These figures are not same-market, same-date prices, and the storage tiers differ from Apple’s entry configuration.

Do not subtract one figure from the other or use a currency conversion as a current price gap. For a useful comparison, check same-day prices in your country for matching storage, and account for taxes, discounts and—if importing the Xiaomi—shipping, duties and other landed costs. The cited figures are launch-market context, not live retail quotes.
Where is the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max officially available?
Apple said its iPhone 17 Pro Max rollout would cover more than 63 countries and regions, beginning September 19, 2025. That was the launch plan; it does not confirm present-day stock in a particular country.

PCN Mobile reported that Xiaomi announced the 17 Pro Max in China on September 25, 2025, started sales there on September 27, and had not officially released it in the US, UK, Europe, India or wider global markets as of August 9, 2026. Treat that as a dated report, not a guarantee about every market or any later change. Check local Xiaomi channels for current status before buying.
What should you check before importing the Xiaomi?
An overseas listing is not the same as official local retail. Before ordering, confirm the exact model and how it will work in your country:

- Model and ROM: Ask the seller to identify the exact Chinese model and software ROM. Confirm the functions and services you rely on work as expected.
- Carrier compatibility: Check the model’s supported cellular bands against your carrier’s requirements; do not assume that a phone sold in one region supports every local network feature.
- Warranty and returns: Get the warranty terms in writing, including who handles claims, where returns go and whether local consumer protections apply.
- Repairs: Check whether authorized or independent repair options and replacement parts are available locally.
- Total cost: Add shipping, taxes, customs duties and any seller fees to the price, then compare that landed cost with phones officially sold in your market.
Which phone makes more sense for you?
Consider the iPhone 17 Pro Max if
- You want iOS and Apple’s listed storage options, including a 2TB configuration.
- You can buy it through supported local channels and value the breadth of Apple’s announced launch rollout.
- You prefer to judge camera or battery performance using independent tests rather than infer it from hardware figures alone.
Consider the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max if
- The rear display and reported high-capacity battery are features you specifically want.
- You prefer Android and are interested in Xiaomi’s China-market hardware.
- You have checked import compatibility, service support, returns and total cost, and are comfortable with the risks of buying a region-specific model.
Neither phone is a universal winner on the information here: the useful choice depends on your country, preferred operating system, feature priorities and the support available after purchase.
